i would be extremely upset, especially if my boyfriend/partner was very prone to say that sort of thing.

taken in isolation, its could be offensive, because it may show that my boyfriend does not really know me or trust me, but maybe not enough to finish with him. If, however, he is always making sweeping, inaccurate insnsitive statements about me, it might just be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

For the record, what was said was pretty foul - insulting a person's fidelity (i assume without cause) and her intelligence with one statement. It also shows a lack of sensitivity to her feelings, i.e. her desire to have kids.

Its a bit harsh to say something like that, its hard to tell ith the situation but if the guy really believes that and wasn't just mad or being stupid then its probably not right to be with him since it doesn't sound like he has much respect for you or your feelings.
