I would like to start an orphan

I'd start by talking to the people who do fund raising professionally. Like for the YWCA or YMCA, the American Cancer Society. Lots of fund raising for Breast Cancer so there has to be someone there that can get you started.

Or maybe some marketing reps from radio stations. They throw events all the time.

Just a few ideas. Just be sure to check with your local zoning board to make sure you don't need any special permits. And any money you use to get the event going, I believe, is tax deductible.

I love www.google.com and it might be worth a try to do a search on "how to start a fund raiser". Be sure to use the quotes though otherwise you get results with any word of those words in it. You might have to re-word it a few times but that should give you some great ideas.

Also WWW.ANYSOLDIER.COM is a place where soldiers sign up for support and this time of year the soldiers ask for a lot of gifts for Iraqi and Afgan orphans, and they also do other countries. But they will tell you how to do a fund raiser for that purpose. And your personal opinon on the war shouldn't be affected by wanting to help children.

What's wrong with the orphans here? They got bad breath or something?

Sheesh!

In any event, gather a board of directors with a financial officer (preferably a CPA) a legal officer (preferably a practicing attorney) and somebody with deep pockets who needs tax deductions, and get yourself a 501(c)3 designation.

And please, charity begins at HOME!

Contact one of the thousands of groups that already collects money "for the kids". They find that their "administrative expenses" are horrendous.
