ok, so, dolce and gabbana light blue is very good, BUT sooo many ppl have it. i own LOTZ of ralph laurens (blue, romance, ralph) and i've gotten compliments on all of them, i've gotten compliments on victoria secret's pink and sexy lil thing (this spray container actually purrs wen u pick it up :]) but out of all of them ralph lauren blue has prob. gotten da most compliments! but w/e u pick, i'm sure it'll smell terrific! god bless and luv to u!

You have quite a few good answers here! So I'll throw in my two cents because I LOVE perfume. I've been married for 15 years and only got a bottle of perfume once! It was Michael Kors and I absolutely love it! Now for the business at hand.
For something heady, Chanel #5. It's classic, classy and very very sexy indeed.
For something light, Philosophy's Amazing Grace. This is clean and fresh. Kind of a soap and water scent. I use this after every shower because it makes me feel so purely clean!
I think asking her what she likes is a bad idea. You want to surprise her, right? Show her what you think of her by giving her something really special. And by choosing it yourself will tell her that you really put a lot of thought not just into the gift but into her.

Think about what her personality is like. Is she outdoorsy, sophisiticated, softly feminine, or modern? What are the qualitites about her that make her most appealing to you?
With those things in mind consider the scents that you most associate to those qualities. Go to a good department store and sample the perfumes using those little paper strips. A good sales person can teach you how to sample perfume. When you find one that smells like what you adore about her you have found the right perfume.

Honestly, I think you should get her what you love, as long as she doesn't hate it. It's sweet of you to plan on getting her a perfume for X'mas. I'm sure she'll love it!

Hello Kitty parfume smells really nice. Kind of cotton candy, lemon scented. Victoria's Secret parfumes are usually really nice, especially the Very Sexy. I get it in shampoo as well and loooove it. Couldn't live without that smell. But if you really like the Very Irresistable on her, why not get that?
