question for all you marines out there. what exactly do you do (or... supposed to do) when in your mojave training off in 29? my boyfriend got back from a 5 day training op, got 2 weeks regular duty, then got sent and still is in another 10 day training ops, will get another 2 weeks of regular schedual, then will head off to 29 palms for mojave viper. i would ask him what it's all about but i don't wanna wait for him to come back to find out the answer. :P all i know is that he's done it before and finds it completely useless to be trucked over there again.

Mojave viper sucks... I've been there twice. But, training is training, the quality at which he gets it will be dependent on how his attitude toward the evolution is and the attitude of his command. You get out of it what you put into it. Basically a bunch of ranges and motorized exercizes. He will also go through training on how to speak and communicate with Iraqi people without offending them. Searching procedures for houses, cars, people etc.

He probally wont be granted any liberty while he is there. He's pretty much stuck on a base out in the middle of the desert with similiar conditions to Iraq, minus the effects from war. And it wont be quite as hot as Iraq.

Mojave Viper is a pre-deployment training. So lets say his unit was due to deploy in December of this year. They most likely would head out to 29 Palms in the October time frame. And only certain units do that training.

Hi there! After getting stationed at Lejeune, my then boyfriend was sent to Mojave Training 10 months later. While he was there we talked on the phone and he would text me every other day. He wasn't able to use the internet though. After training, he was sent to Iraq about 2 months later. If this helps any, his MOS was 0331 (machine-gunner).

This is a training technique used to keep them sharp, I can not tell you about the actual execise because it's a military training tactic that isn't supposed to be discussed. If your boyfriend feels the need to tell you something then take it at face value.
The military trains in many diffferent way, many of these training methods are open for public viewing, but his along with dozens of others are not.
I'm not saying that it's top secert because I know many people that have told their freinds and family about it, but they are instructed not to talk about the training.
Sorry i couldn't be more helpful.

1. 29 Palms Marine Corps Base is in the lower Mojave Desert. It is a close comparison to Al Anbar and Diyalah Provinces in Iraq where the Marines are engaged in actions against Al Queda.
2. I suggest he change his mind about it being useless. The training is designed to make him ready to fight and to keep him alive while doing it.
