He says HI once in a while when we see each other, but otherwise.. I IM him and he talks with questions relevant to the topic i persue, never really starting another topic.
When I see him I try to say something, but he comes off saying,"ohreally?" or "i see"
This isnt going to work is it? I should give up trying?

Guys don't "need" conversations like us girls do. BUT if a guy is interested he will generally initiate conversations especially if you have any kind of relationship.
It sounds like he's being polite. Or maybe he's just not much of a talker.
If he is interested he should persue you..my advice is to back off and see what happens. Give the guy a chance to message you or talk to you first. If after awhile he doesn't you will know he was just being friendly.

Just let it go girl. There are more people out there in the world that are more interesting to talk to. People often underestimate how important having a real conversation is. Look for someone to give you what you want. They are out there probably looking for you.
