so i just took my 4 days pierced lip retainer out since my lip was purple and i was afraid it was infected, and i called my piercer, he said i should take it out since it's too tight or whatever . so i took it out , and clean it with salt & water right away, inside my lip and out. am i doing the right thing to help the hole close properly? and was the decision i made to take the lip ring out a good decision?

Yes, it was a good idea to take the lip ring out. Continue doing the sea salt soaks until the swelling goes down. It shouldn't scar too badly, consider it's only a few days old.

I don't think that leaving a retainer in for 4 days, or being pierced with one, is a good idea. You'd probably be better off with a long stud, so it won't effect the swelling, and sea salt soaks. Also, rinse your mouth with alchohol-free mouth wash.
