No matter the MOS, they all deploy sooner or later. The only MOS that does not deploy is a Recruiter and you can not enter the army as one of them. There are also school instructors that don't deploy but that is only a special assignment and you only are an instructor a certain amount of time. Recruiters and Instructors go back to their job after this special assignment and can deploy. Unless of course you make recruiting your permanent MOS. Even Chaplin's deploy, but they don't carry any weapons. Even a clerk deploys. So there really is no such thing as non combat MOS, all MOS's see a tour of duty. Now it all depends on where you are stationed at that depends on if you deploy or not. Because MOS's don't deploy, units and Battalions deploy and sometimes Divisions deploy. Good luck with what ever decision you guys make. But also know that since you two are not married, you will not be able to go with him. And he will be required to live in the Barracks until he makes E5/E6 or is married. The only way you can go with him is if you pay for everything, and he will not get any extra money for housing because he will be in the Barracks. And then there are certain places that you still can not go with him. Good luck again

well since my husband became an NCO hes spent the majority of his time behind a desk....but yet he gets deployed often and is in a combat role when he does. also a friend of mine is a paralegal at JAG and has been deployed twice as a combat medic (she was sent to texas for 6 weeks for a lifesaving course first) so many people these days are going over there and filling roles that are nowhere near their normal job that noone could really say for sure ........i would highly suggest if you dont want to see combat that you dont enlist. my husband is AF and everyone says they dont deploy as much as army......but he hasnt been home more than 9-10 months at a time for the last 5 years. and does 6 month deployments...i believe army does get more time in between (not positive on this) but their deployments are 12-18 months.

There's always a chance that you could be deployed. Even if you're a "desk" worker, they will put you to doing something else that they need.

For example, my boyfriend is Iraq and isn't even doing the original occupation that he chose. He's doing security, because that's what they need over there.

Also, the Military Musicians get deployed, too...

You could go reserve, but even then, you will probably get deployed.

And it also has to do with what Unit you're in. If your Unit is deploying, then you're going, too.

It's the risk you take when joining the Military. Good luck on your decision.

You could consider something involving intelligence-gathering, such as flying drones from a computer room or satellite-related technology. A lot of other things will at least ship out of the country, but there are a lot more opportunities is places like the CIA, NSA and FBI, where you can be a computer geek and get paid a decent government salary without ever leaving the country.

sorry even desk jobs deploy. In fact many ADMIN jobs are in the desert right now. somebody has to keep track of all the paperwork.

if you are unwilling to go wherever, whenever and for however long they need you too, at any time, regardless of family issues at home, then do NOT enlist.

Members of the Army Band in Washington, including the Fife and Drum Corps. They are all professional musicians who auditioned for enlistment with the band.
