If you were to lose 25lbs by Christmas, which means you would have to lose 8.33lbs a month (which is a little unhealthy). Make smaller goals. "Lose 5lbs in the month of October." etc.

Eat healthy. Limited sugary foods from your diet. Eat lots of veggies, fruits and get your diary in. Eat meat and whole grains. Try not to drink soft drinks and stay away from fast food. Chicken and fish are the best source of meat. Yogurt, milk, and cheese are great source of diary. Eat whole wheat bread and pasta.

It is tricky when you have asthma and getting exercise in. You do need to get your cardio in. Try power walking for 30 minutes 3 times a week for the first 2 weeks. Then gradually move up to 40 minutes, 4 times a week. Also do get in crunches (sit ups are bad on the back) and other ad workouts. You can find a lot on web. Buy a jump rope (they are cheap). But in order for jump roping to be affective, you will need to do it over a period of time (like 20 minutes). You can jump rope for 5 minutes before power walking, then in a couple weeks, jump rope 10 minutes before walking.

Also, do some Pilates (once or twice a week). It does not because you to get out of breathe. This will help you lose inches. They have a lot of Pilates DVDs out there. There are also other workouts DVDs that you can try. Mix things up, so you do not get bored and want to quit. You can also buy some DVDs that are for abs, and other muscle groups.

FOOD:
1] cut out all fried, fast, and junk food - even diet junk food.
2] drink 1/2 gallon of water a day
3] take a quality vitamin with minerals every day
EXERCISE:
4] do some aerobic exercise six days a week, for 30 to 45 minutes - walk, bike, dance, swim
5] do 3 sets each of 10 pushups, situps, obliques, crunches,
and leg lifts; every day. Work up to light weights. Muscle masswill build up, and muscle burns more calories than fat
[ and toned muscles look terrific ].
Just jumping will use up a lot of energy, without burning much calories - boxers do that to keep 'light on their feet'.

My guess is that you won't lose much weight until you change your diet. You are 30-40 lbs overweight because you are eating too much bad stuff and not enough good stuff. Sounds simplistic but I'm sure it's true, it's like that with every overweight person I know. Exercise all you want, it certainly won't hurt, but until you stop eating unhealthy food your body will continue to maintain the extra stores of fat and probably keep adding to them.

If you want to change your diet so that you lose weight, then by all means, do that and you can easily lose 2 lbs per week. That would probably make your Christmas goal!

Create a daily workout routine, though you can just do it every other day, and eat healthier. Keep up your metabolism with 5-6 small meals a day. Try crunches, sit ups, push ups, jogging, and other exercises.

You might also want to check with your Dr. about a possible thyroid condition, especially if the weight came on pretty fast.

in addition to what you are going to do, you might take the challenge of diet. if you go for diet, i suggest u still have to eat your complete meals but of course not as much as what you were eating, just DON'T eat after 6pm. some people say it's most effective.
