Dear Rae,
I almost wasn't going to answer this one bc it is so deep for me. I'll try.
I live in a house that I love perhaps too much. We bought it, my first and one and only house, 16 years ago, just before the big Oakland hills fire. This house came within a block, on 3 sides, of the fire burning it down flat as a pancake.
I grew up in a house with an alcoholic mother, and I was the 6th of 7, so mother was tired of having kids around and knew how much I needed them to keep our house and not sell it when I was a teenager and was still in school and needed a place to live. Whenever I didn't want to get mother her booze or whenever I tried to keep her from drinking, she would say, "There's the door, don't let it hit you in the butt on your way out." This was when I was 15, 16 years old, still in school and taking care of her, my mentally ill father, and my younger sister. I came to have a horrible fear of being kicked out of my growing up house, and being left to fend for myself and eat cat food out of garbage cans.
It is very hard to write this. I still feel that way about the house I live in now, like someone someday will tell me I can leave, not to let the door hit me in the butt on my way out, and that I will be eating cat food out of garbage cans.
When the fire came in 1991 and almost burned my home down, I didn't know until the next day that it was OK. I was sobbing out of control, hysterical. The next day, finding out that my home was spared was the biggest relief I have ever felt in my life.
What does my home mean to me? It means security. It means my anchor, my refuge and my protection from the cold. It means that I am not eating cat food out of garbage cans, at least for today.
It means more than I can put into words.
Blessings,
Lady Morgana )0(

My current home means so much... It means a place where I can be unjudged by loving eyes. Where I can stop acting numb to the world and focus on the things that truly matter to me.
Never before have I had a home that has felt like that. My first home was a place that was just filled with pain, and future homes were a place where I could continue my alcoholic and drug addict tendencies without harm to others, and could be left alone.
So, in essence, I guess you could say my home and everyone in it mean everything to me. And hopefully those in my home feel the same towards me.
=P =)

My home means love. It is where my husband, my daughter, myself & our dog just kick back & relax. Home is where the heart is. If someone comes over, they should bring only love into the household and not heartache.

My home is 100% a reflection of ME. It's the place that I feel totally calm and relaxed in and nothing seems to ever be able to bother me or get under my skin. I love it here.

It means everthing to me. My safe haven the place where I can be me. Create myself. Share with the ones I love. Shelter, Pride and Joy. A feeling of freedom. Actually free to run naked in my own domain if I want to. My happiness Memories to make and on and on.

My home is the castle where my queen ruels and i wouldn't have it any other way, for without her my home would only be
a house, and i would be a servant to it's loneliness instead of
a recipiant of it's love. Home is where the heart is thus she is
the heart of my home . . .
