Actually, statistics have shown that Russia, the worlds LARGEST country has shown a continous downslide in population for the past decade.
The government was even giving out prizes or paying people to start producing more babies in order to keep the Russian government stable!

Okay, here's how it is: Catholics are taught not to use birth control (though, of course, some do, just like some Catholics have abortions and support the death penalty) because it prevents life from being created and that is not the way God intended it. He wanted sex to be used for creating new life, and it is against His law to prevent the process. In other words, God wants you to have sex, but only if there's a chance you can get pregnant. It's the same with Planned Parenthood. The church is also against tracking your cycle so you know when you can have sex with minimal risk of pregnancy. It's all about interrupting what God meant to be. Hope this helps more than some of these people who are just trying to be jerks. (Personally, though, I'm pro-birth control; yes, the world is WAY too crowded)
EDIT: PEOPLE, THE CHURCH IS AGAINST NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING!!!! WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INFORMATION!? No form of birth control is considered "right" within the eyes of the church.

Catholics can practice birth control - natural family planning is one form and it is almost as reliable as the pill when done right.
The reason Catholics don't want to use the pill is that it is merely an early abortion. There is a fertilized egg but the pill creates an environment in the uterus that prohibits implantation. Catholics work towards the highest respect for human life. Other religions share this respect to some degree, for example, I understand that Orthodox Jews have a similar pro-life opinion.
Thanks for asking, PriestsForLife.org is a good source for the facts with regard to Catholics and respect for human life.

Because it's the will of God if conception takes place and nobody has the right to go against His will by using contraception. Plus the pope says so.
Yes, the world is crowded enough.
The overwhelming majority of Catholics around the world do indeed use contraception. Even though the pope says no.

The answer is because birth control violates the total self giving of husband and wife to each other. God created sex for two purposes- to be life-giving and unitive.
When you DELIBERATELY remove the possibility of life from the sexual act, it reduces what is supposed to be a beautiful thing to something base and meaningless. An infertile couple (including the elderly) who would otherwise welcome a child if it were possible is not violating the purpose of sex.
BTW- overpopulation is a MYTH.
Also, birth control's mama- Margaret Sanger- pushed it as a means of GENOCIDE. She wanted anyone who wasn't white STERILIZED. SHe wanted Jews STERILIZED. She wanted anyone of diminished mental capacity STERILIZED. She felt those who should be allowed to have children should be CHOSEN.
Another problem with birth control is the lack of repsect for life. Hormonal birth control works by ABORTING babies....and when it doesn't work, the logical next step is a surgical abortion.

The Catholic Church allows natural forms of birth control.
Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control is against the will of God.
Here is the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop's website on Natural Family Planning: http://www.usccb.org/prolife/issues/nfp/
With love in Christ.

1st off you can have people that are Anti-Christianity answering this question. So you'll have to thumb down those peeps. Second it stats in the bible about giving life. As for the world being over crowded It depends on your definition of over crowded. Ask Russia or Germany about being over crowded. Their Governments are giving perks to couples willing to have children. China and India yes they are. So it depends where you live

actually, times are changing and some catholics have already accepted birth control (contraceptive) as the most responsible thing to do. Birth control for the Catholics is accepted only when you do it naturally, so calendar method is allowed but rarely practiced. Somewhere along the line they got mixed up between "going out and multiplying" and "bahala na".

Catholics believe in Natural Family Planning. The main reason they don't believe in condoms, birth control pills, etc, is because it takes away from the natural process God wants us to go through. We're here to reproduce, and if it's his will for you not to have children, you have to leave it in his hands. However, you are allowed to use natural birth control (rythm method, billings method, Basal body temp, etc) if you, for example, cannot provide for children. I found a natural method (link below) that is 99.7 % effective, and there's no harmful side effects. Those odds are better than most oral contraceptives. And you get to go bareback. Why not use natural?

The same reason that others don't. LIKE I WOULD NOT BE HERE TODAY IF THEY HAD BIRTH CONTROL IN 1947. I thank GOD that they did not believe in it then and I am not Catholic.
Study Hard about that one Darth you would not be here either if it went as hard as they want it to be.
