One has a rifled gun, the other a smoothbore. One has a gas turbine engine, the other a turbocharged multi-fuel diesel. One emphasises top speed, the other acceleration. These are different vehicles designed to different requirements to suit the needs of different users. One is not necessarily better than the other, just different. Deciding which is better is up to the individual user. It is a lot like buying a car. There is no BEST CAR. There are hundreds of different cars on the market because what works for one person might be useless to another. And so it is with tanks. One user might find some features of the Challenger more to their liking than the Abrams and vice-versa. It is not a question of right or wrong or better or best, just different approaches and philosophies.

I'm a tanker with about 16 years on M1A1s. The bradley and tanks aren't even in the same catagory. Bradley is powered by a diesel and the tank is powered by a turbine. The tank smokes the bradley every time but the fastest a tank will go is about 45 mph, about 60 going downhill. at the testing groudns they get a bit faster when they take the turrets off. It also depends on the health of the engine at the time.

It's about 45 MPH but I had one going faster down a hill at Fort Knox once. Or, my driver did, I was just enjoying the ride. Gravity and 70 tons of tank increase the speed.

My cousin is in the army, so this information DID NOT come off of wikipedia!
The Abrams, Bradley and most of our treaded vehicles for that matter, have an average top speed between 40 and 55 depending on the terrain, and assuming it's flat land.
