Ok here's the easy explanation-
1) blue ray discs can hold up to 50g at the moment, (theoretical possibility of 200g), that gives game developers more room to create the game the want, bigger better games, no size restrictions.
2)true HD is uncompressed 1080p digital picture and sound, it is not necessary to compress a game or move on blue- ray because it is so large - which means blue- ray is true HD
3) Finally, blue-ray discs are insanely durable, i mean you really have to saw it in half for it to not work ( i saw a video - search: "blur-ray durability test"), meaning if your disc gets scratched, theres no need to buy a new one.
So To sum it all up .... blue- ray KICKS ***!!!!!

The nice advantage that the PS3 has over any Blu-Ray player (apart from the games), is that Sony makes firmware upgrades to enhance your Blu-Ray experience. Just two weeks ago, Sony added the Picture in Picture functionality and the Blu-Ray profile 1.0 and profile 2.0 - this is functionality which no other Blu-Ray player on today's market has - and current Blu-Ray players will never have as they do not have the option to upgrade firmware like the PS3 has. To sum up, if BluRay capabilities change Like they have done this past month), Sony can modify the PS3 to match that. You cannot do that with a Blu-Ray player

The Blu-ray disk itself does not provide high def. What it does is allow all that high def data to fit into the disk. The 360 uses DVD-9, and you can get HD on 360 games.
The great thing about Blu-ray is that it can hold 25 gb on a single layer and 50 gb on a dual layer. What that means is that developers can store a lot of info on just 1 Blu-ray disk. Instead of using multiple disks for huge games, they can use 1 Blu-ray disks. That's the advantage that the PS3 has over the 360. Games will be on one disk, while huge games will be on multiple disks on the 360.

it is the most advanced form of Media available right now for games/movies.
It is Full High Defnition and has 5 time as much storage space as a regular DVD.
Future Blu Ray discs have the potential to hold up to 200 gigs of memory.

for games like resistence and ratchet and clank tools of destruction the games take over 25gigs each ... Blueray has a 50gig capacity...Those games and many many others would never fit on 8 gig dual layered dvds which xbox uses for games...
In other words the blueray disc allows for bigger games complete maps, more AI characters , and better hd graphics and sound without sacrificing anything...I don't know if you played halo 3 yet but it feels incomplete and although the graphics are better than halo 2 the graphics for halo 3 seem flat almost like a painting where the artist stop working it too soon.....Same thing with rainbow 6 vegas... on the 360 the graphics seem muted, most likely due to the limited space of the 8gig dvd 360 game format....

Movies on blu-ray are HD, full 1080p is possible on blu-ray. As far as games, the storage size of a blu-ray is 50GB where DVD-9 (which is what the xbox360 uses) is a total of just about 9GB.
It can support full 7.1 surround sound (uncompressed/lossless) DVD can support 7.1 surround sound (compressed).
DVD-9 supports movies up to 480p.

Blu-ray (or BD-DVD) holds up to 54 GB (while it's competitor HD-DVD up to 30 GB). Prototypes of BD-DVD can hold up to 200 GB. It's under development, so in future we'll enjoy 200 GB BD-DVD. What's good for the game? More textures, better textures, better sound, more sound, more and more of everything. What's good for movies - BD-DVD let's you watch movies in quality, that is 6 times better than usual DVD-9 (DVD-9 holds up to 8.5 GB).
