So many to choose from...Edison, Tesla, Ford, Heron of Alexandria, Archimedes, Walter Chrsyler, Da Vinci, George Washington Carver and many more.
For sheer engineering brilliance in a time of lesser engineering abilities, I'd have to go with Heron of Alexandria. I wonder how much more advanced we would be today if some of his inventions and ideas had been pursued more fully like the steam engine and the first programmable automated devices he created..

I must admit to an affinity towards Maj. Edwin Armstrong. He seemed to think WAY ahead of his time, making such enormous improvements with such primitive technology of the day! A real Geek's Geek!
Sad though, the turns his life took and how it ended.
The fellow I work for, Karsten Pilested, he's a very bright man, he's an inventor and has several international patents on his Anti-shoplifting designs, his are the only ones to date which are approved for use in the European Union because of their ultra low emissions.
