All sports drinks have some sugar in them. It really depends on what kind of sugar is involved, however, that makes the difference.

In fact, Gatorade contains no HFCS. It contains a blend of simple sugars (supposedly) designed for maximum absorption in minimum time, which does follow a certain science. What it does contain is a blend of glucose, sucrose and fructose syrups, which is much better for you than drinks which contain HFCS:

Accelerade contains only sucrose, which must be broken down in the body into glucose in order to be utilized, which will create a slower absorption rate than gatorade. It also contains a small amount of whey protein which will aid a little bit in recovery but not enough to be significant, and certainly it's not something that's going to help in the middle of high activity levels such as a foot or bike race. During activity, proteins won't be utilized for protein as much as it will be converted to glucose for energy (and would likely give me a side stitch).

So for its intended use, gatorade is actually an excellent choice; for fast absorbing energy, electrolyte and hydration replacement during high levels of activity or post workout (Accelerade would be fine post workout but not so much during the activity). But it won't necessarily be the best thing in the world at other times.

Other sports drinks really are non-carbonated soft drinks, loaded with junk and having little actual usefulness or nutritional value.

Accelerade Vs Gatorade

Accelerade does have sugar, so I'm not sure how much better it is.

Yes, it does have protein, but don't forget the sugar.

P.S. Yes, it does contain relatively less sugar, but quite frankly, if you were to add protein powder to Gatorade and measure the amount you drink, the difference between the two isn't that substantial. I generally use Gatorade and throw a tbsp of protein powder in it right after training. Same reason -- post-workout insulin spike with some protein.

Well considering the professional sports leagues use it, cant be that bad bro.

Corn syrup is not a main ingredient though, I dont know where you got that.

But for my money, cant beat good old fashioned water!

I personally think that Gatorade is the best, becuase, especially in Wrestling and Swimming, Gatorade gives you the energy you "lost" while you were Swimming/Wrestling

HFCS is really only an issue for the sedentary individual with a high percentage of body fat. if you are lean that means your insulin sensitivity is high and your body can effectively metabolize nutrients.

the body's of athletes can metabolize and utilize nutrients more effectively than that of the sedentary individual.
