My mom is 50 years old heavy chain-smoking woman for years. She is on her 3 packs a day habit with no intense to quit or cut it down. She is smoking for about 25 years, and she is always with a ciggie in her mouth smoking like a chimney and every day she smokes more and more. She also likes to smoke two cigs at once saying that she really needs to smoke more to feel good. In a recent years she started to smoke cigars on a daily purpose, she is really deeply inhaling them and says that she likes big smoke that fills her inside. She has a female friends about her age, who also smokes a lot and when they come to our house it is smoke everywhere i'm almost out of breath.
And my mom changed a lot. She looks older than she is, she got wrinkles on her face too early, she has a yellow tar stained teeth and very bad breath, she is always coughing a lot and constantly out of breath, sometimes i noticed that she is feeling dizzy, but she says she is ok and that she needs to smoke. Is it problem?

Cigars aren't meant to be inhaled, it's way worse then just smoking cigarretes. If your mom doesn't plan to quit, at least try to make her quit inhailing cigars.

Unfortunately, we have to see there is a problem before we have a reason to change. I'm glad you see the problem, since it may help you to remain a non-smoker. The more you can stay away from the smoke, the better. Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs there is, and it sounds like you are getting whopping doses of it already. Smokers are also breathing in whopping doses of carbon monoxide, chemical solvents, pesticides and many other ugly substances. Your mom is already an addict, and that's why she needs to smoke more and more to get the same effect. Smokers usually succumb to lung disease, heart disease, cancer or stroke, among others, and smoking is known to cause premature aging of the skin. Nicotine can also act as an anti-depressant, so depression may be another reason why your mom won't give it up. Her doctor can help with that. I'm really sorry I can't help your mom, but you have my care and support. Have you told your mom how you feel about her smoking or about how it makes you feel physically?

Yes of course this is bad for her. She should probably have a Dr look at her lungs. The reason she she is out of breath and dizzy is because she has so few alveoli to take up the oxygen and put it in the bloodstream. Be sure she has good insurance and has a will.

Of course it is a problem but you can't change people, least of all a parent. Just make sure she has life insurance and a good health insurance plan, and try not to inhale much second-hand smoke.

I'm sure she has emphysema (also known as COPD). That's why she is short of breath and coughing a lot. She might have lung cancer. Unfortunately, though, there's nothing that you can do to make her stop. She has to want to stop.

that's no good for anyone. I doubt she'll stop. Sad. O can't stop drinking at least three shots a day either. But I don't smoke. you must look out for your own lungs. Sorry ...
