My dog is only 4yrs and has only a left rear leg.Otherwise is in great health and spirit.I recently discovered his other rear leg will need surgery soon. There's question about how comfortable he would be with only one rear leg that has had an operation. Is it fair to get him a cart, or is it too much?Want what's best for him,he's the most wonderful dog!

I was trying not too be too wordy,I was meaning that my choices are one rear leg that is imperfect after surgery ,or,if the surgery is unsuccessful should I get him a cart?Surgery on first leg was unsuccessful, that's why we amputated it.

Just be attentive to the dog in case he is in pain. If not, let him ride away! If so then you may have to do something about it. I knew someone once who had a dog with malignant tumors all over him and she did everything to keep the poor thing alive. To me that was extremely selfish and cruel. Put the dog first with a heart of compassion and you won't fail!!! Best wishes with your best friend.

let me ask you a question first, is it fair to put your otherwise healthy dog down or to let him lay around the house not able to move on his own? wouldn't you do anything you could for your human relative it help them walk or get around on their own? of course it is fair to give the ability to walk on his own, even if that means a rear chart for him. i am an animal lover so i would do what it takes to help my four legged family member what ever the problem may be. your dog is still relatively young give him any chance he has to enjoy his life. you would be surprised by how much he would enjoy that chart once he gets used to it. just be able to walk with no pain from the soar leg would help him greatly. but listen to your heart and let it tell you how your dog would feel about it and let him tell you to(not words wise of course) but just by the way he acts, and reacts to the chart and how he does after the surgery. if hes not happy after the surgery then get him the chart and see how he fell about that. he'll let you know if he likes it or not. hope this helps and i hope you make the right decision for your dog

whatever makes it easier on him.if he likes the cart then let him get used to it or just try it 4 awhile. i have seen dogs on tv in a cart and they seemed real happy. just don't make him suffer!!!!! whatever is most comfortable to him. good luck my friend, will say prayer 4 ur little buddy. p.s. i had a dog as a kid who got run over and lost use of one of his back legs, he never missed it, i swear, i think he was faster on 3 legs than 4!!!

Would you want a wheel cart if you have 1 bad leg? Try it for a couple of weeks to see if he likes or dislikes it. Watch him close and also think of other possbilities.

If the leg is going to recover then he'll be able to deal with it for a short period of time.
Dog wheelchairs are expensive and you have to train the dog to use it sometimes, so buying one may be a waste if he is going to be able to use the leg again soon.

Let him try it out. Maybe he has pain in his leg that he doesnt let you know about and the cart may make him happier. Or maybe he will get shy or scared and not move with the cart. Let him try it out and he will let you know by his reactions.

That's tough to answer. You basically have to try to read your dog's mind. Watch for clues as to your dog's mental well being. Use your best and most honest judgment. Good luck! We cannot answer this for you. Do what you honestly believe is best for your dog.

Depends on the dog. I would not put my very active, adventurous dog through it. I would prob. put him down because to me, it would impact his quality of life. Not to sound cold, but I would want to make sure I was not just keeping him around for my own sake.

yes I know a few dogs with these carts if they didn't have they would probably been put to sleep due to their physical problems.
I would definately do it if the vet feels there isn't any physical reason she couldn't use one.
Good Luck

I know many dogs "on wheels" enjoying perfect life. IMHO they don't realize the wheels are not their own parts.
Best of luck, discuss the matter with your vet first.
