My second-grade daughter is going to be eight in January, and I think she might enjoy one of these organizations. I already know that Campfire is technically co-ed now (though I wonder how many troops actually have boys in them), and that Brownies are affiliated with Girl Scouts. But are there any sort of philosophical or practical differences?

Campfire is Co-Ed, and has a good program, DEPENDING on your location and the parents involved, which is the same for the Girl Scout program. It all depends on the specific leader.

You might want to visit each group and make a better informed choice.

Campfire girls smaller "editions" are called Blue Birds. Brownies are younger Girl Scouts. There really isn't much difference, except Girl Scouts sell cookies, Campfire Girls sell mints/candies. I know Campfire allow boys, Girl Scouts is stil for Girls.
