9/11, the Inquisition, the Salem Witch Trials, the Crusades, the '93 WTC bombing, Montségur, the burning of the Library of Alexandrea, the KKK...

Do I fear that the average religious person is going to bomb a building? No. Have people done harmful things in the name of other ideologies, like nationality or ethnicity? Sure. But you sure can't call religion a completely harmless institution either.

There is no harm in being religious. Its when you start taking that religion inserting it into a governing body and starting an agenda fueled by it regardless of the opinions of the people who dont share those same views. Religion is a belief not a fact. If a free country is to stay a free country, then one belief cant rule the rest. So if not careful it can cause great harm.

For some, some religious theories can be discomforting. It really depends on how beliefs make the individual feel psychologically.

Not everyone is comfortable with the concept of having been evolved from a baboon that began from an intergalactic accident.

Just as

Not everyone is comfortable with the notion of being a creation.

I think the main focus in life is to mind your Ps and Qs and enjoy life without stuffing anything up. So I would say that if it causes confusion, stick with your science text books.

When you do not fully understand what it means and you just go by the rules. When you restrict yourself with your so called religion. And when you start not to respect others' beliefs thinking that yours is the one true ONE, then you'll just be one of them, the religious fanatics who don't tend to know and understand what they are really believing.

I wouldn't say there is harm in religion unless a person lets it take over their life to the extent that they can not see reason over scripture, or they allow scripture to become what they believe and use that belief in a detrimental way.

For example, more americans are killed every year by christian opposition to medical progress than by terrorists.

Let's make a deal: You promise me that nobody ever gets hurt by your religion again, and I'll never discuss it again.

Read Letter to a Christian Nation if you want to understand how harmful your religion is.

Probably nothing, unless you actually take it seriously. Then you end up with terrorism and Talaban-like restrictions of basic human rights.
