i got deworming meds from my puppys vet..he said to give him 1 dosage a day for 3 days..it comes prepared in a sringe and its liquidy white. So i gave him the 1st one around 4 pm i think and then a while later he ate, its been like three hours since he ate and he has now thrown up twice! Now i am afriad he will get dehydrated. Is it normal, people who have dewomed pups have said it is but then a different vet from mine said he could not be the dewormer..I am so confused I wish my regular vet was 24hrs..i want his opinion..[oh he has roundworms btw i saw 1 in his poop last night/n the pup is an 8/9 wk old chi] all nice comments are very much appreciated thanks. im also going to call a 24 hr. clinic.

What is the wormer medicine...it sounds like Panacur to me, that is a chalky white liquid.

And what is the dose..how many CCs?

And how much does your Chihuahua weight?

I am doing some research to check for reactions to the medicine, it can happen to dogs just as it can us.

The dose is perfect according to the info I am finding for his body weight. Panacur is an excellent dewormer and reactions are rare.

Vomiting is normal. It is the body's reaction to the parasites dying.

Severe reactions: face starts to swell, develops hives (red blotchs on his skin), starts scratching, or his gums turn pale. These would warrant a trip to the emergency vet.

I am so happy to hear puppy is feeling better and sleeping! I have a Chihuahua, too, she's 5 now and my baby. I remember how fragile she was at that age.

God Bless you and your precious little baby!

Sounds like Panacur dewormer. Just wait until morning as long as he doesn't continue to vomit, then call your vet. He may have you continue the dewormer or he may have you give something else instead. They do not normally vomit up this dewormer, but worms can cause vomiting.

Since all dewormers are basically a toxin, it is not unusual for pupies to vomit. Double check the dose, but don't panic. A call to your vet in the AM should be fine. I am glad you care enough to ask.

This can often be normal especially if it's not continuous.
Just make sure he has plenty of water.
now just for safety as sometimes chis sugar can go down give him some honey about 1/4 teaspoon directly in his mouth. then put about a teaspoon in his water and make sure it's disolved. give this to him as his regular drinking water.
I would get in touch withthe vet in the morning.
If you feel he isn't drinking emoung if you get an eye dropper you can "force feed" it to him.
Good Luck and if you wnat and have any other questions email me at kathy_decaprio@yahoo.com

The dog is not going to dehydrate from vomiting a few times.
Clearly, the dog had worms. Keep giving the wormer. If you think there is a problem, please call the vet you got the meds from!!!!!!

some pupppies throw up, and others poop them out. don't worry, your pup is going to be fine. but if your worried about dehydraytion, give him pedalite(i know spelled wrong to tired to care). and thank you for going to 24 hour emergency care. good luck to you.
