It is my belief that the bible is the view of God and the world from a people who lived 2000 years ago and more. It has as much value as any other history book. A person can still learn from it's pages, even today.

We all have our doubts when it comes to God and the bible and what not. I have been going to church all my life (13 years) and was baptized a few summers ago. I still have my doubts, especially being in Middle School where there are people who can steer you away from God. But at the end of the day, I know that God is real. Otherwise, how did we get here? I find it hard to believe that all the beauty of this world came from an explosion. Before God, what was there to explode? There was nothing in the world, not even a world! Complete darkness.I can't tell you what to believe, but I don't think that life would have a point if there was no Heaven. Life is a miracle in itself and the miracle had to be performed by someone! I'm not going to tell you that christianity is wrong or right. I think we need something to believe in. Without the hope of a better life, what reason would we have to live?

it's good to ask questions and not be just a stock on the shelf.
1. the christian bible is stories to help us cope with life, also there are many other bibles in the world so don't hold it up on a pedestal.
2.i think everything unexplained is built on hope or "faith"
3.we are all aloud to disagree
4.i think it's all bogus, its a fairytale
5.we don't, we just need to live and be happy and do so in peace and love.
no one can say what anyone should believe cause no really truthfully, beyond "faith", knows what is out there. people throw the word faith around way too much, when there scared of the truth and cant really answer a question.
wow after reading some of the answers, just wow. one said i believe everything in the bible, but i dont understand it all, then how can you actually believe in it. and another life is way more vast than just christianity, jesus isn't even acknowledged in other religions and in some nor is god.

1. No. The Bible is truth and tells God's message.
2. There really is a God.
3. I agree with everything the Bible says (although I don't understand it all)
4. There is a heaven and there is a hell.
5. We don't need to believe in something for the sake of believing; but we are searching for something. It's like were apart from something that we once had and now miss. That longing can be found in Christ, and Christ alone.
Everyone believes something. It takes faith, to believe in God; but it also takes faith (however misguided) to believe that there isn't a God, or evolution took place. After all we weren't there.

1 - It's a bunch of stories meant to control people. The "morals" of the Old Testament should not be shown or passed on.
2 - It is built on control.
3 - It's all based on fear and hope of reward.
4 - Bogus. But your life can be a living hell.
5 - You don't. It's nice to believe in air though.

This is from the Asatru perspective. As told by me.
1) Some people feel that way (in Asatru) Which is why Atheism is compatible with Asatru. However I dont think they would agree with "just stories" They feel that the God's where real people. (like the rest of Asatru) just that the stories are exaggerated and they where given God status out of honor for there deeds. ( a very possible occurence) The embelishment however is to better tell the story. and link the stories together.
2) I would say there is a God. Infact I wuld say there are many. ^_^
3) Not particularly.... The old ways where not about control....which is why some of the kings (Olaf.... *cough-cough*) wanted the conversion.
4) I feel there is a Valhalla, a Hel, and places in Hel for the cowardly.
5)Thats a very difficuly question. It sums down, for me, to giving a direction, purpose, and meaning to living.

There is a God, there is a heaven and hell, it is not based on fear that they exsist but judgment God is perfect an can only have perfection in His persence so there for since we cant achive perfection on our own God sent His Son Jesus Christ the one and only Messiah to die on a cross to pay for the whole worlds sin, once and for all. He rose again on the third day to not only prove He was God in flesh, but that God the father was satisifyed with the sacrifice. The Bible is all true, or at least that is my belief given that all the prophecy in the Bible that there is 70% has already come true to 100% accuracy. Not only that but all the prophecy about the Messiah came true in one man Jesus Christ again to 100% accuracy, the remaining 30% deals with the rapture and tribulation (end of the world), so from a common sence stand point I personally believe that the Bible, God, Heaven and Hell are all true things that exsist and have backing eveidence

Hmm Heathen perspective.
1. Our stories are to be taken with a grain of metaphoric salt. I am fully aware I am not made from a tree. There are purposes to the stories. They are tales of why the gods are gods.
2. Well I think they exist because I've met them. Well met is an understatement but you get the idea. I believe in lots of them.
3. You can't control a Heathen. Woe be to the person who tries.
4.Hel is with one L. And yup there sure is. We also have the halls of the gods and the mounds of our ancestors. We have choices baby!!
5. You don't need to do anything. I look at this way, I don't NEED chocolate. But I like it and it makes me happy so I eat it. I don't NEED to believe. But I like is and it makes me happy.
Only YOU can decide what you believe. No one has the right or the reason to do it for you.

Religion is I way to escape death or reality,no one wants to think life is over in such a short time and want to believe they will live forever some how after death
it is all fairy tails ,but they do have historic value
there are older storys of older gods and most bible storys are twists them
read Gilgamesh ,another older acount of god,the first man up untill the flood, the only difference is the serpent was changed to the devil instead of a god

It's ok to ask questions but you should have a purpose. If you're seeking Truth, then seek it from those who know. And most of all, seek from God. God promises that if you seek, you will find, if you knock, the door will be opened to you. Meaning God will welcome your seeking.
You speak of the things 'we don't agree with' are they based on fear to control us?' No. If we disagree with some thought or teaching,it's because God teaches us His Truth. There is only one Truth! One God! One Faith! One Baptism! That is the teaching we accept and follow. God's Word is God Word. Period. There is no other Truth. People can accept it or reject it, it's a choice, but we know the outcome.
Is there a heaven or hell? You bet! Heaven is living throughout eternity with God, and Hell is living througout eternity separate from God! That real!!!!
You have free-will - so you can decide what you need! But hopefully, you will educate yourself so that you can make an informed decision. Do you need God? From my perspective (a Christian), yes you do! You can not save yourself! But if you don't consider yourself a sinner, even though God says you are, you probably don't think you need a Savior. God is wanting you to live with Him forever. He wanted that so bad that He gave His only Son to redeem you (if you so choose to let Him). Whether you choose Himor not, He will always love you. He is the Creator, you are His created. If you don't believe in Him....you choose the consequences. Eternal separation. If you just choose to believe is 'something' I would check and see its longetivity. Just because you don't believe something ,doesn't make it not true. God will not be mocked. Your last question: Who's to say what one can believe? It's not a question of 'what'.....
but 'Whom"........ there is a difference.

Believe in the Bible, in God, in Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory. I think the hard part is determining which parts of the Bible are supposed to be taken literally, and which parts are to be taken figuratively. I think it's a personal quest each person has to go on and decide for themselves. I don't believe you should believe a certain religion just because your family does, and people tell you that you should. I think it's important to know WHY you believe in something. For me, I believe in God because of personal experiences, and because there are so many stories and things that don't make sense to us as people. Because of this, I think there's too much evidence for there NOT to be something. What that something is, people can argue over, but there has to be SOMETHING. (My opinion, anyway.)
