My son is 17 months old and suddenly wants nothing to do with his bottle at night. He's still doing ok on his morning bottle but at night hes only drinking about 2 or 3 oz, and he usually drank about 7 or 8. Is this a normal age for kids to not want a bottle anymore? Should i try giving him milk in a sippy cup at every meal? How much milk should a 17 month old be drinking? Help!

Your baby is fine. There really is no preconception as to how long a baby should have a bottle. My mom weened me at 9 months from a bottle. All of my children were done at about 12 months. I have a 15 month old now that is still on a sippy cup, and has to have a little bit of milk at night in his cup. It is oerfectly normal for the little one to not want a bottle anymore. Let the baby make the decision. They will let u know when they are ready. My 15 month old drinks about 16-24 ounces of milk per day, but he is a big boy. You can definitely try milk in a sippy cup with meals. It will probably make ur baby feel like one of the family members since they will be drinking a cup like everyone else. Give it all a try, and have fun!!!!!!

Your son should have been off of his bottle long ago, the current recommendation by pediatricians is no longer than 12 months, usually beginning at around 10 months. Since he's refusing it at night now, take advantage of his refusal and finish weaning him from it. He absolutely should never have been given milk in a night time bottle unless you are brushing his teeth right after that. You should have been brushing his teeth at least once daily with infants' toothpaste, by the way, once there are at least 2 through.

Offer him a cup of milk with each meal. Some children have an easier time with the straw type cups rather than the actual sippy cups. Be careful with the sippy though. They can promote tooth decay just like the bottles cause baby bottle mouth. The same pooling of liquid happens at the base of the teeth, so make sure he's not sipping at it all day, just meals/snacks. At 17 months, you don't need to be too worried about his intake of milk. Offer it, but if he refuses it make sure he's getting his calcium in cheese, yogurt, and other vitamin rich foods.

Good luck!!

That is actually a good thing if he is starting to refuse his bottle means you are not going to have a hard time getting him off it.

Switch to a sippy cup and give him his 7 or 8 oz after each meal and see how you go if he is having about 1 cup 3 times a day he'll be fine. At this age they are more dependant on solids than milk but milk is still needed for bone and teeth development.

it isn't good for children to have a bottle for too long as it can cause gum and teeth problems but weening them to a sippy cup between 18 months - 2 years is fine.

I would try switching him to a sippy cup. My son didn't want anything to do with the bottle at 8 months, so I switched him to sippy cups. After they turn 1, they should only get about 12 ounces, or 2 cups of milk a day, 6 ounces of juice and the rest water. Make sure to brush his teeth before he goes to bed, especially if he drinks his milk right before bedtime.

My first two kids were off the bottle at 1 yr which is the age to wean. my third child is still on the bottle and is almost 16months old he drinks it at night which is bad for there teeth ( i water it down about 7oz water 2 oz milk) but i just don't have the energy to go threw the process of taking it away b/c it is his security blanket which only makes it worse the longer he has it. He should of been introduced to the sippy cup at 6 months of age but don't worry not a big deal I would just get rid of it and go to the sippy cup now since it will be easier on him and it's not needed any more. your lucky! and about the amount of milk my son is lactose and tolerant the doctor told me it wouldn't matter if he had no milk just as long as he gets calcium and iron in other things, cheese and meat are good sources

He's well past the age where it's okay to be using a sippy cup.

Give him whole milk, one serving at each meal. At night-time, give him water ONLY (milk or juice sitting on the teeth all night equals bad dental problems). Offer him juice only rarely, because it's the soda of the baby/toddler world.

That's great. I am still trying to get rid of the nighttime bottle with my 21 month old. He just doesn't like to go to sleep without it. I always drank milk for meals growing up, but I have noticed if I give my children it, they get fuller faster and don't want to eat their meal. I give my little one milk in a sippy first thing in the morning and one sometime during the day and then like I said he gets a bottle of milk at night.

It's good. you're supposed to start getting him off the bottle at age 1yr. just make sure you keep lots of stuff for him to drink. and try those bottles with the tops that can be closed. go ahead and throw out the bottles and stick with the sippy cups. he's doin' good. my little girl was 2 b4 she was bottle broke.

You should have taken the bottle away nearly 6 months ago. Pediatricians say no bottles and switch to milk at first birthday.
With that he shouldn't be getting any milk at bedtime unless you are brushing his teeth right afterwards...definately not going to bed with milk. As for day time consumption a couple of glasses a day is good. one glass of fruit juice and then water for the rest.

interior the united kingdom the present suggestion is for infants to be completely off all bottles via 365 days previous with the creation of a cup at 6months. Bottles can would reason substantial injury to the the teeth alignment via them transforming into around the form of the teat, this in turn shapes the gums which the subsequent the teeth strengthen according to. the different subject is decay which could ensue from a new child with the teeth utilising a bottle. i might attempt dropping her day-time bottles and intend to get her off completely via 2 years. it may get extra good the older she gets!
