What works completely is topical flea preventative applied to the back of the dog's neck - every single month.
No injections, no vet, just Frontline or Advantage applied every month.

Program does work, the injection is for cats only though. There's a Program tablet for dogs. HOWEVER, Program is only intended to sterilise fleas, not kill them, so it's a preventative rather than a treatment - it's not good if fleas are already present.

Program is falling out of fashion because of this, there are simply more convenient products that do more to stop fleas i.e veterinary spot-ons. I think Program's only real use these days is as extra protection i.e if your animal has a flea allergy and you want to attack your flea problem from all possible angles.

The injection lasts 6 months and costs around about £40 I think - more expensive than a 6 month supply of Frontline Combo!

We apply frontline drops to the back of the neck of our Westie, every 6, maybe 8 weeks. They are not cheap and can only be bought by the vets, they do come cheaper if you buy a pack of 6 months than 3 months supply. If I'm correct the price we paid was around £35.00. It might be a little less but not much.
Good luck!
