Or should we just say "feel hungry" or "I'm hungry"?

I read some articles that uses the phrase "urge for hunger". I found it a bit awkward so I wondered if it is correct English to say "hungry" as such.

Here's a sample of the article: http://www.bookrags.com/essay-2006/1/18/143916/262

You feel an urge for food not hunger. Hunger is a state of being.... as in hungry, thirsty. You feel the urge for what will satisy the "urge" not the state the want puts you in. Does that make sense to you?

I´n my opinion "the urge for hunger" means "you desperately want to be hungry"or " you feel a desperate need to be hungry". A really scary thought. The best and easiest way is to say "I´m hungry", that explains everything.

If you said "I feel the urge for hunger." I think you would be understood. However, it doesn't sound very natural and a fluent English speaker wouldn't say it. "The urge for hunger" makes it seems like you have the desire to become hungry, so it's not proper usage.

"the urge for hunger" would mean that you want to feel hunger or you are looking to get hunger. That wouldn't actually make sense.

You feel hungry. You are hungry. I was hungry (but then I had dinner).

Neither is correct.

You should instead say "I feel hungry" or "I'm hungry" as you suggested, or "I feel the urge to eat" or "I have an urge to eat", or something similar.

hunger in it self is an urge, so in effect, you'd be saying "i feel the urge for the urge to eat"
