Rome does not hide the truth. However, by asking this question you attempt to hide the truth that is Rome. Certainly Christianity has no backbone, no structure, no beginning, no consistency, and no history without Rome.

There is a time for prudence such as "to exclude from their preaching difficult and subtle questions which tend not to edification"! For example, I would not initially teach calculus to someone learning mathematics, but would start with something simpler. Ironically, it is not the Catholic Church, but the protestants, that took this to the level of crossing the line to deception and error. For example, Luther did not write the first German bible as protestants like to claim, but he did deliberately made mistakes in his translation to mislead people, writing "Faith Alone" in sections to support his 'new faith'. Of course, now you only need to search for the words 'Faith Alone' on the protestant website http://www.biblegateway.com/ to see the truth.

Pope Pius XII saved almost 100 times more Jews than Schindler (according to Jewish historians)! Three million Catholics died in the defence of Jews. That is only half the number of Jews that were killed, admittedly, but killing Catholics was only one of Hitler's lesser hobbies. Schindler had a movie made about him, and yet, Pope Pius gets the cold shoulder. Go figure!

The "not opening holocaust records to Jewish scholars' claim is a furfy. They have had access many times. If the Vatican disallows access to records to everyone while they are refurbishing the place, it is now common practise to misconstrue this handily as "not allowing access to Jewish scholars".

The Syllabus of errors was directed against the Modernists. Read in this context, and by reading the surrounding errors, it all makes sense! This is a misquote out of context.

Freedom of conscience is absurd ... if it is not informed! That is the point (and the context). For example, anyone is free to play the piano anyway they like, but until they learn how to play it is noise. In fact, only when they painstakingly spends years learning how to play do they derive pleasure from the activity and learn to truly appreciate the piano and the possibilities afforded by even more work and study. What are the chances of me playing Beethoven's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor if I have never learnt how to play the piano? Probably about zero.

In the end, all roads lead to Rome. Even protestants are on the road to Rome, and I hope they all find their way there and do not get too lost on the way. Certainly, many of our brethren have already found their way back. Just read "Rome Sweet Home" by Scott Hahn.
