an understanding of them. Know how to release their jaw if they bite something and know how to train and control one. You WILL be responsible if anything happens. Learn how to properly care for them. I love pit bulls, but I hate most of the owners for not taking responsibly for their pet. If you want one and know about them great, but don't jump into anything. They are not the dog to learn on

First you need to do alot of research on the breed. Learn about the myths that aren't true (like locking jaws) and the real issues that these dogs can bring with them. Find out if Pitbulls are banned in your area. Find a good trainer who specializes in bull breeds and sign the dog up for training classes.

If you aren't prepared to do any of these things, then a Pitbull isn't for you. Good luck.

Make sure the pit bull is ok with other dogs. Ummm prong collar they are strong and will run toward a squirrel if they see one and you'll need to really make sure you can restrain him. Umm...lots of love to make sure to erase a bad past. neuter/spay. TOUGH TOYS. THEY WILL CHEW ABOUT ANYTHING IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES. Use a collar that wont break when you go on walks. so like prong collars. TRUST ME..U WILL NEED IT. Lots of socialization. and lots of special attention because they can pretty much trust u with their life. also...make sure to train him to do tricks because they really doo need mental stimulation. VERY smart animals.

A great deal of research and understanding. These animals ate strong and strong willed. They can make a wonderful pet with training and good temperament. They take a lot of work and time on your part to become a well adjusted house pet. Good Luck

Well, you need to make sure the breed is acceptable to own, where you live, first.

Visit your local shelters & rescues, and you're bound to have a large variety of APBTs to choose from, many purebreds.

Expect to attend basic obedience classes for proper socialization with humans & other dogs.

A lot of insurance because many of them are dangerous. I was bit by one just walking to my car. It was a friend of mines, a very good friend or I would have sued the heck out of him. This dog tore up my leg..... and my really good jeans..lol

A trailer to live in because most apt.s dont let pit owners rent (liability reasons) and you cant buy a house cuz house insurance doesnt allow pits either. No house insurance no financing. So youll need to live in a trailer park or a slum apt.
