I'm not asking people to respond with answers such as getting more hours of sleep but I'm asking if you do start falling asleep, what can I do right then and there to keep myself awake? Like hit myself to death, or pinch, or what? Suggestions are welcome.

I nod off in class all the time (college student, haha, I get about five hours of sleep if I'm lucky) and the best method honestly depends on the person, I think.

I hate energy drinks, so I usually just keep moving -- whenever I find myself slouching down in my chair, I make myself sit up straight, if I'm zoning out I'll shift to cross or uncross my legs, etc. You don't need to flail about or anything, just shifting position on occasion when you realize you just missed the last sentence the teacher said.

Also, if your teacher lets you have a water bottle, having cold water can help. Just touch it briefly to your neck or wrist and you get a little jolt.

If it was a really boring class, I would make sure I had coffee before or during class. Also the poster mentioned coffee beans covered in chocolate, I had them a lot in class too. People will say too much caffeine is not good but come on...caffeine is like a college students' best friend! I know you probably can't get more sleep, who can? I would just try the caffeine thing, if you don't want to maybe try some green tea (still has caffeine but also other natural ways to get energy). Good luck, study hard.

I found that doing the crossword kept me awake. If you can't do that (like in a high school class) then try doodling or taking notes or doing anything besides sitting and listening.
