We all know that God created us equally and that he loves all his creation. Some Jews think that because they are God's chosen people, they are better than other people and favoured by God? I concluded that from some of the answers I have seen here on Yahoo Answers. If you think I am wrong please correct me.
I would like to hear your definition of God's Chosen People.
Thank you in advance

Mimi, don't pay any attention to those who are arrogant and go around saying that Jews are G-d's chosen people. I don't believe we are the chosen people nor are we any better than anyone else. I know that idea comes from ignorance.

G-d has chosen his creation so that we all love him and worship him alone. That means you and I and everyone else, including the animals and all of his creation.

Next time you hear "The Jews are G-d's chosen people" It means "Arrogance"

G-d made a covenant with Israel in Biblical times. But Jews today don't trace back to that covenant. Jews of today call themselves a religion which means anyone can be Jewish after conversion to Judaism. Unless you are a Cohen or a Levite there is no DNA proof that G-d had chosen us and favoured us modern Jews.

It is nice to know that G-d doesn't have favoritism anymore, since he loves all of his creation equally. After all he is our Heavenly Father.

"God's Chosen People"... This term has led to so many HUGE misunderstandings... It's NOT true that God chose the Jews to receive the Torah - IT'S THE CONTRARY!! Following Jewish traditional interpretation is that God proposed the Torah to EVERYBODY (all nations) and only the Jews chose to accept this law upon them... So it's the Jews who chose the Law - and not God who chose them!!! After all - compared to the usual religions of that time, the Torah with it's 613 commandments to follow isn't exactly what is considered as "easy" and "light"... All other nations rejected it as too difficult - and only the Jews accepted it... Therefore: as the Jews accepted, God concluded a "convenant" with them - the people who chose God became also God's chosen people... We Jews don't consider it as a priviledge in any way!! But rather as a responsability of strong morality we took upon us... Hope this clears things up a bit...

Here in Israel we are taught that Jews are the God's chosen people, and for that better.
But from asking the same Question in my previous account that Jews in the world who want to be a part of a non Jewish nation abandoned this idea. They don’t see them self better then others. So now it dependents on what kind of Jews you are talking with. Ones who would like to be part of society would not go around saying they are better then every one. Every body would hate them; they would say that the term Chosen People doesn’t say they are better.
But Jews that are closed in their Jewish ghettos and do not interact with the out side world would say they are better.
and now the Jews are divided to so many different approaches to Judaism. You can’t ask for one definition

Usually i don't answer religious or political questions but i know an information about this question and i understand what you mean.

This is right, Jews were the chosen people by god, but that was in a certain time, years ago were they were the most good believers in god that time. About who is favored by god,in my opinion i guess it became individually. Doesn't matter exactly which religion the person believes in, but what matters : what is he doing so far for serving it, actions and the way he is treating people.

God created all humans equal - the idea that the Children of Israel are the "Chosen People" has to do with the nature of the covenant that was made between God and our forefathers. This covenant does not make us superior or better than other people and anyone who thinks otherwise does not understand the nature of the covenant. No Jew should consider him or herself superior to a Gentile in the eyes of God - they would only think that their is a difference because of a special relationship that is the covenant. See the wikipedia article for more thorough explanation on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jews_as_a_chosen_people

Good Luck!!!

Specifically, in the Hebrew Bible, called the Old Testament by Christians, and the Tanach by Jews, the phrase Chosen People refers to the ancient Hebrews/Israelites. As mentioned in the book of Exodus, the Hebrew people are God's chosen people and from them shall come the Messiah, or redeemer of the human race. The Israelites also possess the "Word of God" and/or "Law of God" in the form of the Torah as communicated by God to Moses. Jews and, by extension, Christians consider themselves to be the "chosen people" Adherents to Islam make, by the same extension as Christians, the same claim of chosenness by accepting what they see as the validity of the Law of God as told by Moses; as do other religions that are built on those same laws

"God's chosen people" for me meant those who follow His teachings.
If you're referring to the bible, the "free thinkers" say that it is merely a propaganda concocted by the hebrews to boost themselves. No different to the other ancient cultures around the world that say they are the pride of the nation, the enlightened, the cream of the crop, and so on. It just so happened that the bible is the very circulated and read book around the globe. In the future when christianity or judaism is a minor religion in the world, "the chosen" term would be of little concern.

In Judaism, chosenness is the belief that the Jews are a people chosen to be in a covenant with God. The Jewish idea of being chosen is first found in the Torah (five books of Moses) and is elaborated on in later books of the Hebrew Bible. This status carries both responsibilities and blessings as described in the Biblical covenants with God. Much is written about this topic in rabbinic literature.

Christians argue this point with Biblical references such as Galatians 3:28-29 to support their position that followers of Jesus, not Jews, are the chosen of God and heirs to God's promises to Abraham today: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."

For me, the answer is simple. If you follow Christ, you are Chosen.

the god of the jews chose the jews just like the gods of other people chose them.
however, other people chose the god of the jews, but didnt want to become jewish, so they changed god around a bit to fit their concepts, and so the original people who chose that god became outcasts.
convoluted are his ways.
