Global warming is what it says; global warming. The Earth heating itself up. It is caused by us moving closer to the center of the Milky Way, Chlorofluorocarbons/greenhouse gasses and a lot of other contributing factors. Earth will become a lifeless rock in space. We will become something akin to Venus right now. We will all die. We can't prevent it. It's impossible to stop it. We are only a type 0 civilization now.

I'm sure anyone including yourself can find articles by scientists. Here's something a little more direct from non-professionals: http://www.bwhacks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26531&highlight=debatable
I don't agree with all of it but most of it.

The best thing to do here is search Yahoo! for global warming. There are a lot of great websites that will give you an exact definition of what global warming is. I've answered a lot of questions about global warming recently, so feel free to visit my other answers by clicking on my avatar - there are some knowledgeable people that have also answered the same questions as me, so I think that might also be a good direct source for you. I've also given my own humble opinions here (IMHO) to your questions:

What exactly is global warming??
Global warming is the increased temperatures around the planet earth that scientists have measured. Scientists believe that the earth has experienced warming and cooling trends over thousands and millions of years and that humans recently have caused some of the global warming that we experience today.

What will happen to Earth if global warming continues??
Scientists say that global warming will continue unabated in the foreseeable future. Supposedly, there is nothing we can do to stop it in the immediate future, unless for some reason, some natural event appears to slow, stop or reverse it. Since we've never seen warming of this magnitude, we can only theorize what will happen, although we are beginning to see some of the effects of global warming now. Global warming can be a catalyst for other global events - rise in the sea level, activation of earthquakes and volcanos, changes in normal weather patterns, etc...

Will all living things die??
For now, scientists are noticing some of the negative effects on the natural flora and fauna of the world, such as increased desertification, and changes in migratory habits, and how these will increase in the near future.

How can we prevent it??
New industries are growing and being created that can and do address global warming. How fast these new "green" industries can grow may determine how fast we can neutralize global warming and its effects.

These are only the opening statements I have for you. Just type in global warming in your Yahoo search box and run with it!!! There are tons of websites out there that detail exactly what global warming is and how to deal with it.

Global warming is an increase in average temperatures world wide. Earth has had global warming and cooling cycles, called ice age cycles, for billions of years, but the causes are not clear. The present warming is believed to be cause by, or partly caused by, carbon dioxide gas being added to the air by burning coal and oil. Living things are FAR better off in the warm times than the cool times. The idea that it will, or even could, get so hot as to kill living things is false. The main bad effects, for people, are rising sea levels from melting glaciers, and weather pattern shifts. Sea level is projected to rise about 2 feet in 100 years. Other, less easily predicted changes are greater numbers of strong storms, especially hurricanes, and possible shifts in rainfall patterns, causing some farming areas to become unproductive; although this is highly speculative in my opinion. The way being proposed to stop it is to stop burning coal and oil.

MB, you need to know that a scientific dispute exists on the theory of global warming. A number of important issues are controversial, such as:

* Is the observed warming real or partially caused by poorly sited weather stations or the Urban Heat Island effect? The IPCC says the Earth warmed about .74C over the last century. But recent evidence indicates that about half of that may not be real but may have been caused by having weather stations positioned on top of parking lots. The work to document the quality of weather stations is still going on. Once complete, the temperature record is expected to be adjusted down. You can download some neat pictures for your report of these poor quality stations at:
http://surfacestations.org

* Stephen Schwartz of Brookhaven National Laboratory has proposed a much lower climate sensitivity to rising CO2. His calculations were based on ocean heat content rather than the more compromised surface temperature record. Once the temperature record is adjusted, it should be more in line with ocean heat content record.

* Roy Spencer just found a negative feedback in the tropics that is not reflected in any of the computer models. http://blog.acton.org/uploads/Spencer_07GRL.pdf

You may also want to read the "Summary Conclustions" of Roger Pielke. Dr. Pielke is probably the most respected climate scientist on the planet. Pielke writes:
"In terms of climate change and variability on the regional and local scale, the IPCC Reports, the CCSP Report on surface and tropospheric temperature trends, and the U.S. National Assessment have overstated the role of the radiative effect of the anthropogenic increase of CO2 relative to the role of the diversity of other human climate climate forcing on global warming, and more generally, on climate variability and change." Some gases ("greenhouse gases") let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving. That's the "greenhouse effect", and it's a natural thing, mostly caused by water vapor.

Man is making excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. That causes the delicate natural balance to go out of whack and the Earth warms. That's global warming.

It won't be a Hollywood style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.

Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.

Ozone depletion is a completely different thing with relation to global warming.. Basically, when you release CO2 into the atmosphere ( from car exaust and the burning of fuels ) it blankets and traps the heat from the sun thereby raising earths temp.. This is why the planet is warming and melting ice caps. Just remember CO2 blanket and trapped heat

global warming is like gases, and promblem that we have by like cars we use to much gases which puts polution in the air. we will loose a lot of water, air, polution, and gas.yes because plants have to have a water to leave and to stay alive. we can stop by insteade of using so much cars use so bikes to get around places not just cars.
