Recently I got a co-worker in trouble for innapropriate language at work. She had said one two many comments about people of color, a meeting was held the employee was written up and now everbody seems to be upset with me for standing up for myself. I do feel uncomfortable now but what can I do about that?

Okay - ur first 2 comments!?!? What's up with them?

Anway, I think you just need to let it pass and if it doesn't then you may need to find somewhere else that you are more comfortable.

I am not a "woman of color" - though my skin is peachy colored... and if I was upset about about stuff I heard I would say something too. Unfortunately, standing up for yourself doesn't always get you the desired results you want but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. Good for you!

Why would you feel BAD for doing something GOOD?! What you did was right and if the others don't agree or don't like it, TOUGH. Their stupid attitude shouldn't make you feel uncomfortable if you know that you did the right thing. Not many people are brave enough to stand up for themselves, and usually cowards hate those of us who DO speak up, even if that makes us seem "less nice" to other ppl.... well, sorry!! And if it has to do with racism, it was even BETTER that you got that stupid person "in trouble". Maybe that way the others will learn that they should be careful with what they say if they don't want to get in trouble too.

They're not upset with you for standing up for yourself. They're upset that you exposed one of them, and now they're all at risk. Trust me. They couldn't care less that your co-worker is in trouble. They'd just like to keep their racist tendencies a secret for as long as possible, and you threatened that. They feel you betrayed your own. They should be mad at the one who let the cat out of the bag (the one who got in trouble). You should be proud. She got herself in trouble. You just exposed it.

P.S.- If it was the same woman you were asking about in a previous question, she got off easy.

I don't think you should care. I'm not very bothered by swearing, but racism is disgusting, and I really can't stand bigotry on any level. If your coworkers are upset, perhaps they have some questoinable morals, or maybe they just don't know the whole story. Either way, it rocks that you can stand up for your ethics; few people really do these days.

Inappropriate language, especially racial, needs to be stopped in the whole country, not just in your workplace. But your standing up and insisting that the denigration of African-Americans stop, was courageous and right. If people are sore because one of their favorite employees was repremanded, they just need to get over it, because racism has no place in the workplace.
