Of course it's not wrong to mention God or religion in this country because USA already claims to be "One Nation Under God." If you are implying that it should be changed to "Jesus" instead of "God", that's a mute point because Jesus is God. Non-Christians living in USA, at the moment, probably don't "say it", or they ridicule it if they mention it at all. That's their choice....it's a free country. This country and its constitution were founded by God-fearing pioneers. It's a historical fact. If USA citizens feel they no longer want to acknowledge their union of states under God, if the majority vote to deny God's sovereignty and make it an offense to mention God or religion, then at that point it would be "wrong".....but I'd no longer be an American citizen.

God was chosen because "God" is the "Father."
The phrase "One nation under God" was added in the 1950s- some say as a reaction to the McCarthy era politics. (Fear of Communism spreading, etc.) So, many thought the phrase would reinforce the idea of God in people's lives.
The original "Pledge" was done in honor of Columbus Day in the late 1890s.
As of non-Christians or non believers, they can be silent during the entire recitation or just the part where God is mentioned.

Jesus is very specific to just a few Christian followings. God is used by all Christian, Jewish and even some pagan sects. It just includes more than just a handful of people. The beauty of this country, is that it is free to practice and believe what is most personal to you (or whoever). I chose to use "God" to describe the ambient energy that created us and that is all around us. I don't think I'm alone in that thinking.

It was fine when it was "one nation, indivisible" because people decided they wanted it divided by inserting the words "under God" in the 1950s.
"All persons shall have full and free liberty of religious opinion; nor shall any be compelled to frequent or maintain any religious institution" - Thomas Jefferson
"I am for freedom of religion and against all maneuvers to bring about a legal ascendancy of one sect over another." - Thomas Jefferson
"Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon, than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness, that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind." - Thomas Paine

Are you talking about the Pledge??? You are right, we should have it saying one nation under Jesus but, right now all of us Christians should be focusing on keeping the One nation under God. I heard that they are going to take it out of the Pledge (not like it'd make a diff 'cause Christians would still say "Under God"...lol).
I am with you.

Nations are rather on the way out, really. Governments tend to organize themselves around wealth. When nations were being formed, wealth lay in natural resources with geographical locations. Now, wealth is more abstract, and exists in multi-national corporations. Soon we will be pledging allegiance to "One Exxon, under God," and such.
Won't that be fun?

The answer to your question is in John....
Joh 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Joh 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
Joh 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
The fruit of this nation is obvious...evil....for they DON'T KNOW THE LIGHT, and they are trying to completely REMOVE IT. That is why the MAMMON has 'one nation under god' written in it. Do you really think it is serving god? Or has it MADE ITSELF INTO A gOD? Think about it.

I remember when it was changed. It was another time. Things were much different then. WW2 was won and Ike was a hero. No one said much of anything about it at the time. It might have seemed as if one was speaking ill of Ike.

Too exclusive. Lots of people who are citizens of the US are not specifically Christian, but do have a God they worship.
