You should not get a firearm unless you intend to get all of the necessary training that goes along with it. You must be willing and able to 1) Identify the threat correctly and confirm that the perceived threat is an actual threat 2) Be absolutely sure that you are willing and able to kill the person that you intend to shoot. 3) Be absolutely sure that the killing this perceived threat will not result in your imprisonment 4) Be able to access, load and deploy the firearm before it is used against you and 5) ensure that the firearm can be safely stored , yet accessed quickly enough to be of value. By the way all of this must happen within a split second.
I am very much in favor of the right to bear arms, however there is a huge responsibility that goes along with bearing arms.

There are problems with a Tazer; first, the best ones are two shot weapons. Better be real accurate. If the intruder is heavily clothed the barbs might not make skin contact, this severely diminishes the tazer's effectiveness.
I would suggest a 10% pepper spray. Even the small cans will give you about 30 shots. You can spray up to 16 feet with some cans. Even if the intruder is not completely incapicated by the spray, it will slow him down quite a bit, allowing you time to escape.
A gun is a good back up in case everything goes really bad. Just take lessons on how and WHEN to use it.

FIRST, I have to correct your glowing ignorance. The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with hunting, it was instilled to allow the free people of this country a means to defend themselves against a repressive government which they had just fought to free themselves. You can read more for yourself by simply searching. Christ on a cracker! Is this the kind of education my tax dollars support?!!!!? Secondly your idea has many many flaws. The Tazer has a lot of downsides, bulky clothing can deter the darts, not every cartridge works when fired and it can only be fired ONCE before reloading which takes about 30 seconds. Obviously you have never been assaulted by more than one criminal, if you had then you would know that while you may stop one, the other will quickly subdue you and do what he wants. MY GUN(s) on the other hand will both intimidate and KILL every time. If you don't think that a bullet will stop a determined attacker you are completely wrong. Just my .357 alone, which only holds five rounds, can stop 3 criminal even if I miss twice. A TAZER CANNOT. GROW UP ALREADY and stop listening to that moron teacher who's scared to go out at night because she thinks guns are bad.

I wish I could give Just Wonderin' two thumbs up. Very well said. A firearm in the hands of an untrained or unwilling (gun or tazer) user is a threat and a liability to the user and the community. What ever you decide to get if anything, get training from a defensive trainer.

A good Taser will cost you as much or more than a handgun. Civilian Tasers only throw the darts 15 feet. Reloads are costly. You basically have one shot before you must reload or let the assailant get close enough to you for a contact tasering.
If you opt for a firearm be sure and take the safety course, learn to use it and most importantly, when to use it. Remember, bullets go through a lot of dry wall so consider Glazier type pre-fragmented safety slugs.
Best.

Whichever you'd fell more comfortable with, although if you panic and use the tazer to far away your screwed, with the regular gun you'll have multiple shots (unless it's a flintlock!), plus they have the "intimidation factor" that can cause a significant portion of burglars to flee without confrontation! Your choice, though! (If you do decide on a firearm a revolver would be best, theyre very simple to use and you don't have to fumble with safties and stuff like on automatoc pistols!)
(with a firearm they have to die within your house, you can't shoot at them while they're fleeing through your yard or you could get in trouble!)

Tasers are good if don't want to kill someone, if you choose the taser I would get one with a laser pointer on it. Firearms are good for killing or badly hurting someone, again if you choose either one get the proper training and if its the firearm you opt for take it to the range as much as you can to become familiar with it. I personally have a firearm to protect my family. The game plan for us is that if any thing happens we all meet in the master bedroom and let them take whatever the hell they want while we call the police. But if they enter the bedroom they'll be leabing in an ambulance.

If you are inside your house, and only inside your house, a gun is probably a better bet. You can only shoot someone who is inside your house unlawfully, and you are in real fear for your life or someone else's life, and you have exhausted all escape routes. Once he runs back outside, he is off limits. Also, again you only the right to protect human life with deadly force, you have no right to protect possessions with deadly force. If he is breaking into your car or something; no deadly force allowed.

get a shotgun, id be more afriad of a real gun then some little shocker, and also wiht a tazer you have to be farley close to them, and thats to close for comfort for me. If i could i would recommend a remington express 870 pump action 12 gauge it will get the job done!

Tazers are illegal to own in most states as a citizen. I would go for a normal gun.
