Since there is no cure they will send you home, if you need help a hospice, so you can get the morphine to dull the pain.
My fatherinlaw just went home after the doctor gave him the news, his family cared for him there for the 2 months before he died, there was enough family that had the time to take care of him at home. He had morphine patches and he died at home.

I don't know that this would be called a protocol but after everything has been done, chemo, radiation and etc when a doctor tells some one there is nothing more that can be done is usually the time when the Doc also talks to the patient and family about Hospice Care.
Hospice is a program/way of life that allows a person to die with a little pain as possible at home or in a controlled environment with access to medical staff to assist the family with all personal care needs, pays for the pain meds, is there for physical and emotional and spiritual needs of the person who is dying and there close family and or caregivers. For more info on Hospice I would imagine you could 'google' it and find one in your area.
This is also a time to set your affairs in order say goodbyes make amends assure your family that you do not wish to be kept alive longer than the good Lord intended on a machine.
Family are encouraged to come to terms with and give the person who is dying permission to go and let them know you will be OK, sounds hokey but dying people are as worried about you as you are them.

Cancer is diagnosed terminal if the patient does not wish for whatever reason to treat the disease or if the treatment has failed.
After this usually the patient and their family are offered pallitive care or hospice to treat the symptoms of the disease process rather than make future attempts to cure the disease using chemotherapy and sometimes radiation or other treatments.
Hospice and pallitive care cover a wide range of symptoms management.
This include treating pain with the use of narcotics and non narcotic pain relievers/
Anxiety treatment.
Treatment for secretions during the last stages of death
Treatment for diarrhea, cough, constipation, fever, nausea, vomiting, etc.....................
Spiritual support for the patient and the families of the pt.
Grief counseling for the terminally ill pt and their family members
Sometimes radiation treatments are used for pain relief in the terminally ill.
Hospice and pallitive care nurses are excellent resources to explain the death and dying process and the best way to support a terminally ill family member.

I'm not in the medical field, however, my mother was dianosed and her doctor started the process. His one call to a hospice organization and from there, any other agencies contacted me, I didn't have to look for help, it came to us. The hospice agency was great, and are extremely useful for the caretaker of the ill person. What I do know is that if you are given a very short amount of time, less than six months, you will be considered terminal, and options will be offered to you and your family, regarding treatment, wills, advance directives etc.

terminal means serious ... there is not much they can do ?
you can get other doctors opinions.
when you run out of options , you can go into research treatments - new things not yet approved by FDA.
newer drugs are available in Europe . They do not test them as long and hold them up with laws before they get marketed.
when you run out of the gold treatment standards the md in america offers , why not take the fight to Europe and try newer drugs or research . if i had no or poor chances, i would try some fight i believe. then again , if i was confident that my future would be with god ... what is there to be waiting for . it will be sad to leave family .but youare going to heaven the ultimate vacation destition in the world. every person will cross one day . i beleive if you do not want to go through more treatments / you can opt for the hospice treatment and they will make you comfortable as possible. they are a good organization for the patient and the families.
prayers for you / your family / freinds whoever is dealing with a terminal cancer issue.

He would ask your self you. If he somewhat is mendacity to them and has no objective on telling them you may continually gently lay a touch approximately them looking up the priority themselves on line or the way you comprehend of another those that had some thing comparable and have been given a 2d opinion and it replaced into remarkable what they found out. only remember its the vets duty he has the degree and you will possibly not comprehend each and all of the main factors. additionally evaluate in case you get fired, will you be waiting to get a reference? will different vets prefer to artwork with you in the event that they'd't believe you? communicate on your BOSS!!!!!

It would be palliative care from now on, to make the patient as comfortable as possible whilst maintaining a high degree of dignity for that patient. This is the saddest question i've ever answered - god bless x
