The reason your vet does not want to neuter until he is at least six months old is because there *is* an established link between early neutering and males getting severe kidney disease.
:(

Those who are advocates of early neutering are only considering the possibility of impregnating a female -- not the long-term health of the individual male being neutered!!! If your male does not have access to an intact female, you really should wait!

For a while, there were vets on the fence about this, but the hard science indicates a link. Personally, I would not risk neutering early. However, if you are set on neutering him, you will find vets who will do it.

About spraying.... There is a feline hormone that is sprayed into the air that helps to calm kits and cats and eliminate the spraying behavior. I would try it before neutering. The product is Feliway Comfort Zone and is available at PetSmart and Amazon.

Hope you give it a try!

Your vet is old school. It is common to neuter as early as 8 weeks of age. The AVMA has changed its guidelines and now recommends early spay/neuter and not waiting to six months. Spraying is a little early than average at 4-1/2 months but it can happen and early neutering is the best way to stop it. Find another vet that will neuter him now. The longer you wait, the more likely he'll continue to spray after neutering.

Not if the testicles have dropped it's not, but usually they don't do that until 6 months or so, I would get it fixed as soon as possible, otherwise if it does start spraying you will NEVER get the smell completely gone.

They neuter kittens at humane society shelters at around 2 months old so find a vet and get it done now, if yours wont.

Call the humane society. I don't understand why your vet can't do it. It's perfectly normal for them to start spraying.
