These types of Christians are not what Christ meant Christians to be. My first husband used to quote scripture that said, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers" to prove that Christians should not affiliate with non-believers. I like the saying that "People won't care what you believe until they can believe that you care." That can only happen by getting your hands dirty helping other people. I believe that some Christians are so heavenly-minded that they are of no earthly good.

You are relating two disparate thoughts...one in your question, supposedly supported by Scripture that has been taken out of context.
Christ NEVER taught that He was separate from no one.
Christ was 100% man and 100% human while on earth. Once saved, The Bible tells us that Christians are reborn in Christ. We have new life. We are to consider ourselves strangers in a foreign land. We are not to be like the world, but be the lights of the world, letting God's love shine through us.
Christ was persecuted and murdered for doing nothing wrong. He claimed to be God. He performed miracles. He was 100% human experiencing human existence, feelings, and emotions; yet, He was 100% God. In some ways He was like us, in others He was truly unique. He was the only person ever to be sinless.
The process of sanctification of every believer transforms a person into an ever Christ-like person. Although in the world, they are ever more separate. Only fellow believers are to be held accountable by other believers -- unbelievers are not under this concept of "being held to a higher standard."
So, I do not see why you say Christ taught that He was separate from no one. God is love, and the Scripture you reference suggests that when a person exhibits selfless love to others they, too, show the love of God. Further, we are all made in the image of God, capable of being indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Nevertheless, many will not choose Christ. Christ will judge them and throw them into the lake of fire. Christ did not know them -- they were not children of God. They definitely were separate from Him.
Therefore, I suggest you revisit your premise...which is faulty.

We don't. That is why Christians as a group give more money to charities than any other single group in the world.
That is why Christians operate more hospitals, charities and service organizations than any other group in the world.
It is because we believe that what we do to/for the least (least resourced and least powerful people) in the world, we are doing to/for Christ that we know we are not separate from them.
You seem to have met some uppity Christians who offended you, and I'm sorry. But the majority of Christians are not at all as you depict them.

As a Christian, I do not feel that I am separate from everyone. In fact, I was taght the exact opposite. The verse you list is the exact reason why I am not separate from anyone.
I see evidence that supports what you say. Christians that preach that wealth is your prize for being a Christian and support the death penalty and turn thier eyes from the injustice around them. But then I see Christians that do wonderful things. Help others, advocate justice, advocate taking care of others.
Being a Christian is a journey not a destination. You dont accept Christ and just become a perfect person. It is a struggle not to "be in the world" especially when there are so many seductive messages out there.
On a more macro level, the teachings we follow are ancient but each new to each person that comes to Christ. The religion is born again with each person that comes to Christ. We say you are reborn when you accept Christ. Your sins ar are washed away however you are reborn in the sense that you have committed yourself to living a new life and sometimes you have to rededicate yourself to that again and again.
I see evidence that supports what you say. Christians that preach that wealth is your prize for being a Christian, Christians that preach hate, Christans that support the death penalty and Christian that turn thier eyes from the injustice around them. But then I see Christians that do wonderful things. Help others, advocate justice, advocate taking care of others. In my city, Christians escorted muslim women who were being harrased after 9/11.
I guess what I am saying is we Christians are human, full of imperfections.

The Christian faith is merely the Jewish
faith with a face-lift. Much of what Christ taught
was re-slanted to fit the eye of the beholder.
Bear in mind that Jesus was a rebel inside
a temple of chosen children and magic
carpet rides. Thus, he was eventually crucified
by his own people.
Today, many of his teachings are seen in a
new light. Temperance has out-staged love.
Laws Of Physics have become God's word.
Time and space are no longer constants.
Immortality recently came to light when our
genetic framework turned out to be a series
of frequencies that format with given "quarks."
Was Christ a savior? He certainly was for many
otherwise, oven-bound Jews, who escaped the
holocaust because their ancestors had left the
temple for the cross.
I give my thanks and count my blessings.

A true christian, one that really has the holy spirit living in their heart, not someone with just a mouth profession, will not separate themselves from anybody, but they will separate themselves from sin. Example, if you had a party and their was drinking, and ill behavior, don't get hurt feelings if your christian Friends or relatives leave the party as things get a little crazy. As a christian you must separate yourself from sin, least you fall.

On the contrary, the bible calls Christians to come out from the world and be separated unto Jesus Christ.
You are not representing the gospel message accurately.

15My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17Sanctify[a] them by the truth; your word is truth.
Christians are seperate from the world, because they have been washed in the Blood of the Lamb. But we still live in this world, to be witnesses for the one who bought us back with His owm life-Christ Jesus!

Firstly Christ (if he did exist) was NOT a Christian. Secondly the teachings that they (Christians) follow are not from Christ's but from Paul thus they were just blinded from the start.

The simple answer - Christians are not Christ.
(Generalizing Christians is a dangerous thing - you'd be better off citing a specific example that troubles you)
