There is a spray I believe it is called bitter sweet that you can spray on your screens. You shouldn't be able to smell it, but, if they lick or bite the screen they will have a bitter taste in their mouth. If they claw it then lick their claws...Blahhh...lol...

Another thing you can try is putting some cat nip on your scratching posts. This will entice the cat to SCRATCH, but, on the post not on your screen.

Good luck

We had to declaw one of our cats for this reason. He scratched through a screen in seconds and was out the door. He was hit by a car the last time, had no serious injuries, and was declawed right after that. It was either that, or he would be dead.
We tries Soft Paws...which come off pretty fast when they are scratching screen, we tries a plastic mesh type screening over the screens, but had issues also.
We felt it was the only answer that would save his life!!!!

I will tell you nail trimming did zippo. Neither did putting citrus on the screen and window sills. The old metal screen slowed him down some, but they can get through it still. Clearly, my cat spent most waking moments trying to get out the window.
And summer is not a time to keep the windows closed!!!

there is a spray you can buy at the store, that cats can smell (but you cant) that keeps them away from whatever you spray it with, or you can get a spray bottle, put water in it, and spray the cat whenever it scratches the screen. your last resort would be to get it declawed.

The best bet would be to get him declawed. It is really the only way to stop him from tearing the screen. If you one of the people who don't like declawing you could always by stronger screen like ones that are practically metal.

You could try carefully clipping his nails, or you could try a product called "Soft Paws". These are little plastic nail caps that glue over each claw. They are smooth plastic, and will help prevent them from destroying screens and furniture. You can buy them at any pet supply store.

See if you can find some kind of guard to put in the window that still allows air in.

i've had cats that were tough on screens too. dunno how to keep them from doing it except switching to the metal screens (the old fasioned kind, the more recent screens are made of some sort of polymer or plastic or fiberglass fiber.)
your cat isn't intentionally being destructive, he/she simply is marking territory or stretching the claws.

Spray the screens with an odor your kitty hates, but you love. This should keep kitty from destroying your screens.

trim their nails (above the quick so they don't bleed).
