They probably think dada means all men. They'll figure it out. Even if they call him dada, they know who their daddy really is.

My youngest thought every man that was in an Army uniform was DaDa. Even though he knew who his Daddy was. It is just confusing. What you do is correct her and say "That's John, not Daddy".
The more you make a big deal out of it the bigger the problem gets. Just take it in stride. And two year olds are learning and practicing words like crazy.

First of all, you are making somewhat of a big deal out of this in my opinion. This is not like if someone older were to say it, implying that this person is closer to them than their father, but just a term that your children are using for him. If you are still worried, I would suggest trying to get your husband to spend more time with the kids. Things like fishing, hiking, doing things togethor as a family certainly make bonds between your kids and their dad.

Explain to them that he is not their dad & that he is a friend (whatever his name is) don't be too worried about it my 2 year olds did a very embarrassing thing to me a couple of times out the front of the supermarket while waiting for a taxi every man that walked passed they said "is that my daddy?"(when their father was in the supermarket & they knew who he was) I got some dirty looks & they got some laughs!!!Also tell your hubby if it happens again you don't want her to say it & hubby wondering something else!!!Good luck

Don't worry. My friend's little sister called me 'daddy' once, and my little boy is confused about what it really means. I wouldn't feel the need to tell your hsband though! Just explain what they can call your friend.

In toddler world "dada" can easily mean any man who they like.
Next time it happens, laugh and tell her, "thats so and so, thats not daddy."
Happens all the time.

I had a friend whose daughter called me and her mom and her grandma "mama" they just need time to figure it out. Just tell them "no, not daddy" and say his name.
