In a previous question of mine only two Christians bothered to answer, and their answers had nothing to do with the question.

Most of you Christians choose to answer questions that really don't force you to think and where you can paste answers you found from some bogus Christian site, e.g. a question about evolution.
I've seen Christians do this for other questions, not just my own.
If you're really secure in your beliefs why do you avoid tough questions and use deflections?

All the Christian responces so far proves my point. Maybe you guys should call your religion "Deflectionism".

Gracie Carlene: You totally missed the point. I never said you're afraid of evolution. I said evolution is the only thing Christians aren't afraid of. You call yourself a history major, yet your comprehension sucks.

You are absolutely correct, Humbert.
I am adding you as a contact so that I don't miss any of your questions in the future.
I have happened on several of your tough questions in the past that I have thoroughly enjoyed answering.
Even after I became a Christian, I hungered in such a way that I could be satiated by none other than God Himself and His Word. God and the Bible ALONE satisfied my deepest, toughest questions.
Most people leave Christianity because their questions go unanswered. In Catholicism, it is the most prevalent. The "laity" are told in the Catechism that only the Pope and his puppets are allowed to "interpret" scripture. Which, to me, basically is a cult mentality that says, "you can't understand this stuff...let me explain it to you." And yet, the greatest evil is that they DON'T explain truth, as most of the Priests themselves cannot answer the tough questions. So they shrug off the hungry and thirsty sheep, and say, "just believe! that's what I do!"
And the Catholic sheep are cachectic, sick, and dying...
BUT, even within Protestantism, MANY of these "sheep" still avoid conversations about theology...
It drives me insane!
Perhaps it is just how God made me...but I have an insatiable hunger and thirst for truth...and will dig the ends of the earth to find it.
Obviously, I don't have all the answers...and there is MUCH I don't know...
But this is the VERY reason I love the toughest questions of all...for the pursuit of the answer is what drives me to search out the truth...and nothing delights me as much.
I LOVE to be corrected and have my mind changed, especially about theology and doctrine. If I am thinking wrongly about my God, I want to know...!
Nobody is as passionate as a person who comes by truth the "hard way"...and the history of the church provides example upon example of such people...including Saul who became Paul.
IF (and perhaps a VERY big if) you ever become a Christian, you will not be pleased with much of Christianity...and many of the books written by Christians...
But you will love the deepest of theologians and expositors, whose hearts and minds swam in the ocean of God's unfathomable grace.
You would understand the book of Romans better than most, and almost overnight become a teacher, inspiration, and even the admiration of other Christians who were raised such.
And that is my prayer for you, my friend.

God lives by 'faith' too !!! As below, so above and vice versa.
God did not entrap Eve or Adam; and the knowledge of the dichotomy was essential for women and men to evolve; as moral creatures. That is, the no means nothing if 'yes' is not a possibility and vice versa. Had they not eaten thereof; we would merely be a form of animal, deprived of 'free will'.
What a great God He is !! How brilliant of Him. And, yet, I think He was surprised at the level of malevolence that women and men are capable of; hence, the flood, much later in His laboratory experiment. How else does one explain that ..."God looked upon the earth and its violence and 'repented' of having made man"...!!!
Note: I have yet to cut and paste anything on this site.
Wrap your melon around those ideas and let the good times commence.

lol Yahoo Answers may not gather together the highest number of intellects who know how to refute themselves and their beliefs.
Unfortunately, it is true when people try to question God, those who blindly follow will turn their back from such questions...and just keep blindly believing.
I dont really consider myself a Christian now, but I can see how the Christian side could be argued. When I was younger, I went on debate forums as a young girl preaching love of God. Wew- I was attacked for that!
But it grew my faith stronger than it was before because I challenged back. Then came many life experiences of suffering and sorrow that I've gone through. Belief in God got me through that, and I was sure I was going to come out of traumatic events with a gift to help the world.
Then it was in the aftereffect of those events that my faith finally started to die (and let me tell you, losing faith in God's guidance is the biggest letdown...but you live.) Everyday life was still hard after I just experienced the most traumatic events in the world- I had so much inside me and little places to go to express. It was in the blandness of life, the shallowness of those who surrounded me, that caused me to stumble. I'd rather be fighting big things than silently struggle in everyday life is what I realized. It made me realize a lot of things about humanity- our need for purpose and to fight.
But in the end, as the saying goes "**** happens" it does. There's so much in our lives we will never understand, or figure out how to guide our selves. Remember this always- it is our judgements and expectations which causes us pain. Religion has grown ignorance and it has taken it away, caused a compassino movement for those who get heartily involved. Humanity is beautiful that way. There is no God though. Just the universe we are bound to and it's stretching atmosphere of dark and light. :-)

I did not see your questions or you would have received a response from me.
So fire away.
Regarding Adam and Eve on your previous question they were not children. They were made after the image and likeness of God. Genesis 1:26,27. The walked and talked with God every evening at the cool of the day.
God gave Adam authority over all of the animals, (which he named), commanded him to tend (guard) the garden, (from the devil). He had to have had some smarts to do that....
Eve was deceived into believing the serpent.

In your link Reshonda answered you. It did NOT require discernment. It was obedience or disobedience that was being judged.
Just because you don't like the answers you get doesn't mean Christians aren't answering you. It means you don't like the answers you're receiving by all of us.
How deceived are you?
You'll make any excuse whatsoever to believe the absolute worst about a group of people. You're a bigot.
That's not a deflection, honey, and I'm not name calling--I've labeled you appropriately.
Here's the definition of bigot:
–noun a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.

There's a difference between arguing and answering. If you want an honest answer, ask away! I am associated with Jehovah's Witnesses, and I will answer any question you might have that is intelligent and something you would really like an answer to... but I have no intention of arguing with anyone about a question that is bait for a battle between us. That I won't do. Peace.

From your question;
"Now, you can posit that God warned them about eating the fruit, but anyone who knows anything about children will know they're easily deceived into doing things they've been warned against because of naivete."
I feel you are wrong on that point. Naivety, may allow children to be deceived when they have not been warned, but when they have been warned directly it is called rebellion. The first sin. Do not be fooled, Adam & Eve were not naive little children, God had even entrusted Adam to name all of the animals. Genesis 2:19-20

I've been quite pleased with the answers the Christians have given. If they site someone else's research, that's fine. After all, that's what everybody else does about their religion. The tough questions that you speak of, aren't necessarily tough to us! We are not afraid of evolution. We know the answer. We don't have to have the 'created' prove to us 'God!" I think you need to understand a little more about 'faith'. Christianity is all about relationship. Relationship with Jesus, the Christ of God! Faith is believing what you cannot see. We don't have to 'prove' anything, God can take care of Himself.

I didn't see it. I was at the lung specialist's office with my best friend. She has adult asthma brought on from her husband's 3 pack a day addiction. Second hand smoke CAN harm you.
Anyway, I will gladly answer with "I don't know" when I don't know.
I am secure in my beliefs. I do NOT know everything there is to know about my faith, and I don't pretend to do so.
I am secure enough to say it.
I don't know.
Sorry I wasn't here to answer. I'll go back, ok?

I answer. Read my responses, and some of the relgious questions of mine (especially on the ones regarding translation).
Regarding your first question, no it is not bad parenting on GOD's part. GOD told them not to eat of the fruit. Their ultimate sin of disobediance came from doubt in the love of GOD.
Now, Lewis and other Christians address this issue in the "fortunate fall" arguements, and I would direct you to them for a much better explanation than anyone on answers will ever provide you.
They knew GOD created them. They knew GOD had power. They knew what power was, and the fruit was supposed to give them power. They remind me of the underwear gnomes from Southpark season 1 who
1 steal underwear
2?????
3 profit
