My little male poodle (Kirby) is about 3.8 pounds he is 2 years old and I'm tired of paying for grooming. I have the equipment needed. But not the schooling for grooming. Is there an online school or just plain good pictures and good advice?
Please help if you know anything about Poodle grooming.

I have three toy poodles and I took over their grooming in January of 2006 when their groomer raised the rates.
Here is a link to a series of grooming videos:

I have known Toni for many years and I know allot of people who have used her poodle grooming video to learn to groom their poodles.

You may also want to check out the yahoo poodle groups. Some are good, some are not. I belong to a couple and we often discuss grooming since some of our members are groomers!

The Wahl Arco Moser clipper is a great one to get. The blade is adjustable with 5 settings: #'s 9, 10, 15, 30, and 40. Unlike most clippers it doesn't get hot. I use it for the face, feet, tail, and tummy area. The combs it comes with aren't great but are OK. I scissor the legs. I have an 8" straight and an 8" curved scissors. I also get much of my grooming equipment from Pet Edge but I have heard that Groomer's Choice is also very reliable.

You need three different size blades to properly groom a poodle. Unless you have invested in a very good set of clippers I would suggest youleave the grooming to the professionals. Unless you know what you are doing, it isn't as easy as it looks. There is also a danger of damaging your poodle when grooming around the eyes, plucking the ear hair, expressing the anal glands, clipper burns etc.

With a 3 month old toy poodle, I would take it to a groomer. That way they can show you the right way to do her hair. Toy poodle and poodles are one of the most hardest type of dogs to groom.

Oster A5 clipper or Andis 2 speed clipper, 10 blade feet and face, # 5 body, Millers forge red handled nail trimmers, quik stop.
Every 4-6 weeks. Bathe first, brush and blow dry, brush up toe to elbow and then when completely dry begin trimming.
Put a rubber bath mat on your washer/dryer. . . hooks into the studs of the wall for nooses and belly straps to secure while grooming.
Get a video from Petedge for poodle grooming and practice, you'll eventually get it.

Look in the phone book, and find the nearest groomers and get it groomed, or if u dont want to pay for it you could look on google "grooming dogs" and i'd bet youd find a pretty detailed step by step instrunctions.

They are quite a highly strung breed. It may be as well to take him to a professional groomer, because it is a rather specialist thing.
