My Staffordshire terrier gave birth yesterday so I put her in a empty room and as I was coming home from work I heard a strange sound so my immediate guess was to check on her but when I opened the door she was chewing on her puppy's head so I quickly ran over and took the puppy from her but it was already dead why did she do this

Well first of all... reputable breeders do not leave new mothers alone with their pups for 3 to 4 days.
That said, she probably is either malnourished or something was wrong with the puppy or something is wrong with her. Eclampsia can cause sudden aggressive behaviors toward puppies. It is also life threatening.
A pregnancy on a crappy diet can cause this too.
Take her to the vet and rule out a medical emergency. I also suggest that you sit with her for the next 24 to 48 hours or the entire litter might be eaten.

It would depend on the size of the litter and which pup this one was. The runt of a litter, if a large litter especially, is sometimes eatern by the mother. It saves the mother's strength and also reduces the young she has to care for. It's also possible that the pup was sick or that the mother did not recognize the pup as her own. A new mother will protect her pups rather cautiously.

If this is her first litter, though, keep a very close eye on her and the pups. She might not know how to take care of the pups. Not all new moms are experienced and good at being a "mommie". So, keep a watchful eye.

Use a cat? For what...DO NOT let any other animals near the new borns please!

Call the vet and have her checked out ASAP, as mentioned it could be because of a range of problem, something wrong with the pup or the b itch.

What are you feeding her?, she could be lacking calcium, check with your vet first and cover all areas. DO NOT supplement her without your vets advice.

Good luck with the other puppies, and don't leave their side for at least a few more days. If you have to take time of work, so be it, it's all a part of deciding to breed.

OK! I have a little girl when she was little her Mother ripped a whole into her,Then we put her with another Mother.

GET THOSE PUPPIES AWAY FROM YOUR DOG NOW! And if you have a cat Use the cat Or you might have to go to your local Vet and ask them.
Or go to your petshop/Vet and get some of there milk and bottle.

PS:You might of been touching th epuppies to much.
That makes the Mom nervous and will hurt her puppies.

Use a cat for nursing if it has some kittens. I had a Cat a long time ago! And it nursed my poor puppies back to health!

Sometimes mother dogs will eat their puppies if they are born dead to get thim out of their nest to help keep the area clean. The best thing is to try and have someone that is experienced with them when she is ready to whelp.

sometimes if the parent of the animal nows something is really wrong with her babies like they might die then they might do this to in a way which dosent realli make sense to save them from pain , but thats still kinda sick and sad at the sam time , sorry for the pup

Sometimes the mothers can tell if the puppy is sick or wont make it, and they will eat them to save them the agony or pain. Its a natural part of life, as long as she isnt eating the rest. It sounds wierd but just keep an eye on her.

She was not chewing on the dog's head. Dogs lick their puppies' heads and bodies to clean them and remove the sack surrounding them. You probably just didn't look closely enough. The puppy could have died on its own because it was too cold, or it couldn't breathe, or its body just wasn't strong enough to survive.

thier may have been something wrong with the pup and she knew.. or you moved them from where they were whelped and mum thought she was threatened and killed the pup.. you have to watch her now and make sure she doesnt kill any more of them. maybe seperate the pups and only put them with mum for feeds and you have to watch them at all times

This is why everyone was encouraging you not to breed in your previous questions. So now you have proved to everyone that you are an irresponsible breeder. Get your poor girl spayed.
