Cholesterol gets a pretty bad rap as foods go. The thing to remember is that 70% of our body's cholesterol is controlled by genetics rather than diet. Additionally, there is such thing as good cholesterol (HDL) and bad cholesterol (LDL). Eggs for instance have a high nutrition content, including proteins, omega fatty acids, vitamins and minerals but are much maligned as a bad food because of the cholesterol content.
What's worse for the cholesterol count are getting too many simple processed carbs, which can cause elevated levels of triglycerides, and lack of fiber (most Americans don't get more than a quarter of the daily requirements, which is around 30 grams per day).
So, rather than focusing how much cholesterol foods have, take a closer look at the processed carbs and focus more on getting whole fruits, veggies, grains, legumes, and good fats and that's going to go a lot further for you (soluble fiber has been shown to reduce serum LDL levels drastically if adequately consumed on a daily basis). Unsaturated fats also have been shown to increase HDLs and reduce LDLs.
To answer your question, food cholesterol comes from animal sources such as meats, eggs, and dairy.
