I am going to barbeque some chicken and I wonder if I can reuse the charcoal for another session maybe the next day, since I wont be cooking long?

I always reuse my left over charcoal
I don't pile my charcoal up in the grill
I use a charcoal pan that I fashioned out of an old
portable hibachi grill It has a bunch of large holes in the bottom and it fits through my side burner door on the hondo smoker. I can easily remove the pan if I want to put logs in there, but if I am just gonna cook something simple like steaks or burgers I use this pan. When I get ready I just remove the pan and take it over to the garden shake out all the ashes and the bigger lumps of charcoal stay in the pan,I add a little more charcoal and to start the coals I pour some leftover oil that was used for frying onto the charcoal and a little bit of starter fluid. The fluid gets the oil on fire and the charcoals lite very quickly. Hay its a way to get rid of used oil, what can I say? I pour some of that oil on my cats dry food too,They scarf it up.

Yes, just add a few fresh ones on top if needed and add the fluid and relight. Old charcoal will not burn as hot, so if you need a hotter fire, use a little more fresh. Try to adjust the usage so you don't have to many left when you are done. (My husband is really good at this! He uses the charcoal holders so he can see how much to use rather than just pouring over the bottom of the grill.)

From my experience, usually the charcoal will burn out and be nothing but ashes. If there is any charcoal left in your grill the next day, you can try and re-light it, but it will not get as hot as the first lighting. IT probably wont cook good. Why not just use a little amount of charcoal if just cooking for one?

yes you can . it will work best with lump charcoal and a kettle type grill with a tight fitting cover. just close the vents and let the fire burn out.

as long as you do not cook the charcoals down to ashes...you can use them again but the burn will not be as long.

If it isn't ash, it's still charcoal (albeit partially burned) and yes it's very usuable.
