I am Catholic and when I was a teen, I knew I could never have an abortion. I would have given the child to a loving couple to raise in a good two parent home.
Abortion connects with the Social Teaching of Human Dignity because it is a violation of the human dignity of both the mother and the child. The child is unjustly deprived of his life. The mother is treated like an animal- reduced to a sex object and denied the dignity of motherhood.
The greatest tragedy of abortion is that women do NOT have abortions because they HAVE a choice. They have abortions because they feel they have NO OTHER choice!

The Catholic Church believes that abortion is gravely wrong at all times.
Rape: The conception of human live in the midst of the violent and horrifying crime of rape is one good thing that can come of something evil. The killing of the innocent unborn human being would be a second wrong unsuccessfully trying to make a right.
Risk to mother's health: Unfortunately "threaten her life" is a very vague term. Some people will say that any pregnancy is a risk to the mother's life (a few women do die during childbirth) and justify an abortion.
The one exception is when a pregnant woman must undergo a medical procedure to save her life and as a regrettable but unavoidable circumstance the unborn baby dies. This is not an abortion.
Birth defects: Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all humans have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.
All human life is a sacred gift from God. No human life is useless or worthless.
Impacts to society:
+ The tragic death of an innocent defenseless human being
+ The physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual harm to the mother
+ The psychological, emotional, and spiritual harm to the medical practitioners involved in the abortion
+ The cheapening of human life in the eyes of society and the acceptance of a culture of death

What situation am I supposed to be in to answer the question?
If it was an unplanned pregnancy, I'd have the baby (already had two that way, thanks).
If the baby was physically handicapped, I'd have the baby.
If the baby wasn't going to live more than a few hours or days after birth, I'd have the baby.
If I was in financial trouble, I'd have the baby.
If my husband threatened to leave me over this child, I'd have the baby.
If I was pretty sure I'd lose my job, I'd have the baby.
If I was raped, I'd have the baby.
If my health would never be the same, I'd have the baby (did that once, too).
If my life would surely be over, it would mean the baby was attached to a tube instead of in the womb and was already dead or dying, so I would have surgery to remove the dead child and the damaged tube, and I would mourn. But if there was just a possibility that I might die from complications, I'd go ahead with the pregnancy and get the best medical care and hang on as long as possible, and then have a c-section when necessary, saving both the child's life and my own.
Any other scenarios I'm missing here?
Human dignity means EVERY life is precious, including the lives of people with genetic deformities, including the people fathered by rapists, etc.

may I share with you from the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
"Abortion"
2270 - Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person—among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you."
"My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth."
2271 - Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law: You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish.
God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.
2272 - Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. "A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae," "by the very commission of the offense," and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law. The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. Rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society.

The catholic church is designed to give only those who are slaves .... and then only give you the appearance of human dignity.. while robbing you of every inch of dignity they can... In other words they have manipulated societies to be twisted by their religion to benefit only their religion until the world can only see in terms of religion...
