How old is your cat? If it's just a kitten all you should have to do is put the kitten in the box once and they should know to use the litter box.

When box-training cats, usually all I did was put them in the box then used one of their paws to dig in the litter. And the cat would catch on pretty quickly.
Now, the last pair I box-trained weren't so simple: They were just tiny things, and the sides of the box were taller than them. So I used a painter's tray to teach them, then started scooting it toward the 'big-kitty box'. By the time they were large enough, they were fully trained.

Well usually u needa teach it when you first get th cat. What you do is you go in the bathroom and close the door. Put the kitty in the litterbox and let her/him stay there until they use it. If it gets out put it back in. First of all actually u needa take its face and show it the litterbox. Im not talking about forcing it hard. Just pick it up and kneel his its head down in the box. Than when it uses it, its potty trained. I have 3 kitties so trust me. =]
