Well if you're the one adopting it you're going to run into some problems because you must be 18 in order to adopt a dog.
I tried to get 6 different dogs from shelters in my area. But my local shelter does a drawing from a hat for dogs... which in my opinion is stupid. I get there an hour early to be the first one to get the dog and I don't end up getting it... I finally found a dog more than an hour away, and to be honest, I think she is a better fit than any of the dogs that I had looked at previously. She's a shelter dog and I couldn't have a greater dog... just wait, you'll get the perfect dog eventually!

Do you really need a Jack Russell Terrier? When I was going to get a dog, I had a couple of breeds in mind. And then guess what? I found Judge! Never had I ever wanted a beagle mix, but now I have one. If you just look around at the shelter, you'll probably find a dog you just love.

If you WERE to have one of your parents drive you the 2 hours AND BACK to get a dog, do you have the money that it will cost to BUY one???? If you go to a breeder, you can expect to PAY upwards to $500 for a dog.... If you happen to find someone who's Jack Russell had pups and there are no "papers" (American Kennel Club registration papers), then, a pup can cost you between $100 and $300 in places....and THEN, you would undoubtedly have to have enough money to pay for your pups first visit to the VET... oh and spaying or neutering your dog is a MUST and another expense a few months after the dog is born... So, maybe it is NOT that your parents are "LAZY", but just MAYBE they don't have the kind of MONEY needed to finance the care of a dog at the moment...especially if it's a purebred dog...

Two hours is a long time to sit in a car. Perhaps you should talk with your family about the dog, and ask why they aren't getting you one.
Show that you can take care of the dog without having to be prompted. And since you want a specific kind of dog, make sure to see the parents, and the premises: You want to make sure you're getting a DOG, not an unfortunate product of a puppy mill.
If your parents won't or can't get the dog for you, be patient: You'll have your own place soon, and can get a dog then.
Good luck!

Have you tried Craig's List for your area? Lots of people post pets there. I gave you a link - find your state on the right, then the closest town, then the pets link under community.
Have you read up on the breed? Jack russells are very high energy dogs who have a tendency to run away.... please don't choose a breed strictly by appearance. The JRT is not the dog for everyone. Rat terriers and miniture pinchers are similar breeds that are not quite as high strung.... or even my favorite, the chihuahua.
Anyway, good luck!

Wait till your 16 and have a driver's license and a job to get a dog. It will save you a bunch of headaches. If you get one now, you may find your family won't drive you and the dog to the vet when it needs it or any of a number of things.. Or, maybe they'll insist on buying cheap food you know isn't good for him.
Trust me, save yourself a lot of stress and frustration and wait a bit longer. My poor dogs certainly didn't get great care when I was growing up because my parents saw pets as just an object. My poor dog was almost ten before he got to feel what it was like to lay on a couch and eat decent food. Totally not worth it..

Just chalk it up to the fact that it isn't the right dog or the right time. When it is you will find the dog that is meant for you. Is there any JRT rescues in your area? Just try doing an online search for it.
Good luck!

make sure you're checking your local animal shelters/humane societies as well as the rescues. Have to checked a local JRT rescue? I would google JRT rescue, not all are advertised on petfinder.
