Christians think life starts at conception, and so the fertilized egg obtains the soul. When the embryo later splits into two, creating identical twins, do they share the same soul?

Now I have a problem for God. My twin brother is a Christian and I am an atheist. My question is: can God tell us apart on judgement day?

Everyone who answered said that twins have separate soul. Does this mean that the notion that humans obtain their soul at conception is incorrect? So when does the soul enter the body: when the first nerve cell develops? when the heart starts to beat? or when the lungs are filled with air for the first time? Christians should make up their mind.

I can't say for Christianity, but as far as Judaism is concerned, the soul doesn't enter the body until 40 days AFTER conception. Twins may appear identical, but they're two different people, which is evident by simply having a conversation with them. Each is very different from the other.

I see many answers here tend to have a very "materialistic" idea of the soul. How can a soul "enter a body...? The body has prime matter, right, but it does not apply for the soul, thanks to its spirituality. The soul is just the principle of life, the unifying principle in the body and make it being alive and organic. So if we a first cell of the human embryo and is alive, there is a soul, and in that case it is human. That is the dignity that Christianity defends when we say that life is sacred from its inception. That new life is unique and human, and endorsed with the same dignity we have as grown ups. If there is a division and split into 2 identical twins, what is split is the matter, but not the soul, that is simple and spiritual. A new identity, a new being, a new soul comes into being.

I am Jewish and from what jewdaism says, twins are 2 seperate souls. I thought about this for a while and for a long time as I think about all this stuff all the time. I thought that it may be a possibility that they have part of the same soul to evolve faster in the phaycial world living 2 lives in one life time as one soul in 2 diffeemt bodies as 2 different life times but as one lifetime. Operating under the assumption that life starts at conception complicates this. Here's what I believe about that assertion: we don't know when the soul enters the body of a fetus, so religious leaders have stated that life begins at conception so that they don't condemn to death any fetus who God knows is alive. Since God knows everything, He knows when an embryo is going to split and makes sure both children get their own spirit. Of course God will be able to tell you apart on judgment day, that goes along with the whole omnipotent thing.

Well considering Christians say that the soul arrives at the moment of conception, then that would mean that they each have half of a soul.

Are you gonna try to pull one over on god? That would be hysterical. But in the real world, you and your brother are two completely separate and unique individuals. The only time that you would share anything (with the exception of clothes, and a bedroom) is if you were Siamese twins.

Where did you hear that Christians believe identical twins have the same soul? I've been a Christian a long time and know a whole lot of Christians---but I've never once heard such a preposterous idea. It certainly isn't Biblical.

I too am an identical twin, and I don't believe that one egg divided makes one soul. Each twin is an individual and therefore Jesus will judge them as such.

*Yes, God the Almighty who knew you both before you were even born will know which of you is with Him and which is with Satan.

But, be aware that Jesus taught in this parable:

Matthew 21:28-32
"But what do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy, 'Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.' The son answered, 'No, I won't go,' but later he changed his mind and went anyway. Then the father told the other son, 'You go,' and he said, 'Yes, sir, I will.' But he didn't go. Which of the two was obeying his father?" They replied, "The first, of course." Then Jesus explained his meaning: "I assure you, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do. For John the Baptist came and showed you the way to life, and you didn't believe him, while tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to turn from your sins and believe him.

God Bless You

"Christians think life starts at conception"

A lot of Christians don't believe that. Please don't lump every single Christian into one group like that. It's a rather offensive blanket statement.

As for the question, they would not share the same soul. I am one of those liberal Christians (and there are a lot of us!) that doesn't believe that life starts at conception.

And yes, God can tell you apart since you have separate souls.

NO!!!! twins do not share the same soul, because they are 2 different people. GOD will be able to tell you apart. Your parents can tell you apart and GOD knows you better than even your parents and he loves you and cares about you. Please get to know him better and become a Christian!!
