You still get a rush mentally and there is also an addiction to the occasional pay off.

I guess it's because your in a win lose situation and if your on a winning streak, then you might want to invest more as you adrenaline is going and you think why not? Also for the sake of you can put a little in a get a lot out and it's worth a shot, and maybe thinks can be easier/you won't have to worry so much about money issues

For instance you may win on a scratchcard and think, well I have got a bit on this before,so it's possible, this ending up in the person trying and trying again.

Certain things that give you a rush or temporarily make you care free can cause you to be addicted to it. For some that is gambling.
For me I am addicted to being addicted, everything that doesn't deal with work I will abuse it.

the "natural" high that your body creates chemically that causes you to keep going back I suppose.

That or the free drinks. I think half of all people addicted to gambling are also addicted to something else. I think by and large, that they would addicted to one thing or another if it weren't gambling and that as a society we condemn certain "societal vices." For instance, if someone were addicted to keeping their house clean, nobody cares. If they are addicted to smoking cigarettes, we villify them.

Last I checked folks, household cleaners and ciggs have a lot in common by way of toxic gasses being released.

It is possible to become psychologically addicted to anything. Though you may not be inserting something into your body, there can still be a chemical reaction in your brain. When you are ecstatically happy (I know, redundant) your brain sends off certain endorphines. These endorphines make you feel good. You become addicted to that feeling in your brain. If that repeatedly happens while gampbling, having sex, eating ice cream, or vacuuming, you can become addicted. Gambling is more common, because it is legal (in certian areas), it is easily accessible, people feel they can gain something from it, and the negative possibilities of addiction are not heavily advertised.

This game is really exciting and the feeling of winning is really nice but the problem is when you loose your money and you still think you can win it back and you go get yourself in debt thinking that you'll get your money back WRONG!! I mean I love to gamble but if I loose that's it I'm not going to get my self in more trouble...

For some, it is seen as an opportunity for reward, an investment which can reap big rewards. Often, these people are desperate. For others, it is the thrill of the game. Much like sex or drugs, chemicals are released into the brain as the excitement of the game builds. Even a win cannot stop the behavior as the gambler is always seeking another "high"

well when you gamble you are doing it to make money and when you start making money you want to make more. eventually you put it all on the line just to make more money and alot of times people lose. The problem with this is that people come to realoze that they cant afford to loose the money that they gambled away. then they borrow money and the whole cycle starts again. it isnt that they are addicted it is that alot of times ppl cannt afford to quit.
