... And how many of them can be provided for without money?
Also, would a person be regarded socially as the same person (equal to before) if they were to find a way to cater for their needs without money?
Does your answer reflect anything in terms of what is socially classed as a basic need?

Re-wording for the middle question:
If someone were to be able to 'procure'... food, for example, for free (I will not elaborate as to how), do you think society would continue to treat them in the same way as if they hadn't?

I am, of course referring to starting from absolutely nothing in the middle of a big city.
General consensus (on the basics) is:
Food, clothing, air, water, shelter, and sex.

Well, we need shelter, food, water and air. There are many people who are able to live with very little money, but it is very difficult. Even people who live off the land need to purchase certain items (like toilet paper.) It is definitely possible but I don't think it would be very fun.
No, they would not be considered socially equal to other people. Whether we like to admit it or not, we do not treat bums the same as CEOs. Money is held to too high an esteem in our culture for it to ever be any different.
My grandpa has been a gold miner for the last 20 years (yes people still do it. haha) He was able to live on property owned by California without any payment as long as he worked the mine. He built his own house and could do anything he liked to the site as long as it was returned to it's original state when he left or as it happened, died.
Edit: We do need to procreate as a species, but we do not need to have sex in order to survive on an individual level.

Food, clothing, and shelter. And in some cases (depending on what part of the world you live in) you might not even need clothing.
There was a time when it could all be gotten for free, provided you were willing to work at it. But that time is gone now. There is no more wilderness where a man can just set up camp and live off the land. Every piece of land on the planet is owned by someone.

Drink, food, warmth. In my society these cannot be gained without funding. Even the street people get money from others.
Human company is the only other basic need that does not require money.
In the UK these days, people on social security (govt. handouts) are given an allowance to buy a TV, as this is now classed by those govt. morons as a basic necessity!

On Planet Earth in 2007? I would have to say no. There would ALWAYS be someone to come along and take what you make and acquire away from you, claiming ownership.
The basic needs of food, water, clothing and shelter, along with the means to maintain those needs tends to require some input of SOME form of currency, whether it be cash, barter, or things of trade value. Now if you were to be somehow transported to an Earthlike Planet in an area of mild climate and plenty of food and water with ONLY your bare hands to start off with, it WOULD be possible to survive and even flourish, PROVIDED you knew everything that needed to be done to acquire, build, and make those things that you'd need to exist.

We all know what the basic needs are, or we could not be called human!
The male and female of the human specie must learn to live in a state of "Unity".
Like oak trees that grow together, yet not so close as to be hindered by each others shadow!
Relationships are not a 50/50 proposition.
One day it might be 70/30, the next day it might be 30/70.
One must learn to give and take, freely, without question!
As time passes two hearts become as one heart!
This is how male and female bond into a state of "Unconditional Love".

all of them can be provided for without money, remember the barter system? and last time i checked it doesn't cost anything to love someone (except maybe emotionally). If a person could find a way to cater to their needs (in the modern world) without any money, I don't think they would really give a hoot about social status because they would probably be a survivalist type living off the grid anyway. I would also add a sixth one, the need to worship because I believe that God created us to worship Him. If we don't worship Him, we will worship something else, it is just part of our nature.

I'm high maintenance if you want me. I need myself a good man who can support me in the lifestyle that I'm accustomed to. He has to look good and perform even better. I need a big house with a four car garage and a pool (and a pool boy). I need a Mercedes town car. I need a clothing allowance of at least $1000 a month.
Not much else other than those few things!
