You can but a heavier one is better because it moves less when you hit it. I have a 100 pound bag and it moves around too much for my liking (it's only connected to the ceiling and not the floor).

Unlike the others, I avoid hitting with my shin and only hit with the feet and knees below the waist. The bag isn't that hard and you get used to the impact after a while.

If you have a ***** Sporting goods around you, they have good prices on the bags. Be sure to get the hanging bracket as well or you won't be able to attach it to your ceiling joist.

Doent really matter if you punch or kick the bags to be honest. They are normally called kick bags as they contain material to make it stand forceful kicking etc. Bl9itz or Lonsdale do good bags.

usually they dont hang down like a thai bag, thai bags almost touch the floor and are great for practicing kicks

but yea i am able to kick a punching bag, however depending on the bag the sand might settle at the bottom making it really hard to kick...once again i recommend a thai bag if you are going to do kicks

will it hurt? maybe at 1st but its the best way to condition your shins and eventually you will not feel pain in your shins anymore. most other methods of conditioning your shins arent good just kick pads and the heavy bag

like frank said use your shin as the contact point.

Kicking things hurts. period. but if you use proper technique and do it often enough it will hurt less.

some say to use a rolling pin on your shins to damage the nerves. supposedly it makes it more tolerable to kick heavy bags. I don't know what long term effects this may have on the body though. not a suggestion just an incite.

Yes I am.

I kick bags for muay thai and kickboxing class 5 times a week, they are about 180lbs.

In order to kick it properly, you must use your shins, do not hit with your foot as you could brake it.

Odds are that it will hurt at first, as you must condition your shin bones.

good luck!

please do not try to punch or kick a bag with out some training a video or something at least... you'll get hurt... but yeah with practice (and good training) you can destroy a 70 pound bag with kicks in a short period of time
