My bedroom is 19x10 feet. I have a ledge on the wall where my creme colored upholstery bed will be. The dressers and other furniture will be a dark wood. Can I make a wall that is a red work in there? And can I do so without focusing my entire decor on that wall? What kind of things do you suggest?

Not that I dont want the red wall to be the main focus, but I would also like to not feel restricted to making it a red, black, and white theme... or having red bed linen... I kinda want the wall to stand by itself.

the whole idea of painting one wall is to draw attention/focus to that wall. if you don't want to draw attention to it, don't paint it red...

Definetly! It's your place and you can make ANYTHING work!

I would do the "main" wall as the red one, the one that the bed will be against...

Then find bedding that has red AND some other colors that you love - then when you're picking your accessories you can find things that are the other colors in the bedding. About three colors is good for a color sheme in any room.

Also, to help carry the red throughout and make the room not feel closed in I would to a large mirror on the wall opposite of the red wall.

Hope that helps! E-mail me if you have any more questions! ; )

1] try the red wall on the biggest [ blank ] wall, and use as the gallery [ photos, posters, etc. ]
2] use the head of bed wall
When you add an accent wall, it is just that - an accent. Not a contrast, or a stand alone.
The color should be repeated in some small accessories, or as part of the print in bedding, curtains, etc.

I have a VERY small bathroom, I decided to paint two side walls a dark brown suede, I was surprised it did not close in my area at all, in fact I have so many comments on it. So you have to be very careful not to close in the room but it can work depending on how strategic you are with the paint.

Go for the red wall! Then, choose other rich-toned colors to accent the room. As long as they are all toned similarly, it will look beautiful!
