I already work through a non-union contractor at various plants. But all plants don't use non-union contractors. Some plants that I really want to work will only accept union people. I have talked to a couple of the Locals in my area and no one gets me or they say it's no work available. I want to work at a power plant in California but it's union only. I am a laborer.....What do I do?Do I necessarily have to join a union in my area? How does it all work? Help please (-:

First you get the job, then you join the union, after a probationary period, usually around 90 days.

When you get a job at a union facility, the union will be there and usually contact you. If not, just find out who they are, and give them a call. They will tell you everything you need to know. Do not join a different union. It will do you no good, at least as far as I know. . .
